Social Media Challenge - The Grim Reaper

Hi Splinterlanders! Welcome to another Social Media Challenge! Today I want to talk about yet another Untamed reward card from my collection. You can also check this POST about the Dark Ferryman and this POST about Nightmare. As you can see, I am rather fond of the death deck and today’s article is about another death Untamed reward card: Grim Reaper!

As market prices are still low, I took the opportunity to buy up enough BCX to max out this little darling. He has great stats at all levels, check it out :

Grim Reaper has Affliction form level 1, which is significant, because there are a lot of healers around, especially in Modern League. Causing an enemy monsters not to be able to be healed can make a big difference in low and mid cap battles with relatively low health monsters.

At level 5, Grim Reaper receives Oppress. This ability is not so common, but again, it can make a difference with low mana enemy monsters, as there tend to be some with no attack. During the later stages of a battle, when monsters get shoved into first position one by one, the Grim Reaper can pick off no-attack monster quickly.

Finally, at max level, he gets Piercing, which is what I invested in. At level 8, he has 4 speed and 4 attack. Add piercing to this equation and the Grim Reaper is able to pick off low health monsters with one hit when it is his turn.

Altogether this is a very well balanced card.

I also appreciate the Grim Reaper as range attacker. In rulesets, where rangers play a central role, such as True Aim or rangers only, or when magic and/or melee monsters cannot be used, I am often short of a ranger in the Death Deck. With the Grim Reaper in the team, I have greater options and increased range firepower in my lineups. As you can see below, he fits into my Death Deck very nicely:

To illustrate the usefulness of the Grim Reaper, I would like to show you a little feature battle, where he greatly contributes to the annihilation of the enemy with his 4 range power. Here are the battle stats:

This brawl battle is a high mana battle with a mana cap of 47. The rulesets are Silenced Summoners, Fog of War and Lost Magic. The available splinters are blue, green, purple and gold.

I have put together the following team and took advantage of my Death archers to compensate for the no-magic ruleset. In Fog of War, all monsters attack the first position (except for Scattershot), therefore I opted for a maximum range power capability.

I chose Quix The Devious as summoner in order to bring two heavy tanks: Djinn Chwala with Thorns and Carnage Titan with Reach and Double Strike. Then comes the midfield and backline, all powerful archers:

Position 3: Liza Fox
Position 4: our boy Grim Reaper
Position 5: Dhampir Stalker
Position 6: Gem Meteor with Scattershot.

The two tanks attack with 9 melee and the 4 archers attack with 14 range. I expected that this would provide my team with formidable force and a good probability to walk off the field as winners.

Now that the team is ready to rumble, let's watch the battle:

My opponent also fielded a strong team with a well balanced melee/range strategy. Let's see how it played out:

round 1.jpg

The round began quickly. Gem Meteor fired at the midlfied and the other 3 archers pounded Arkemis and reduced him to 4 health in a flash. Enemy archers fired at Djinn Chwala and the frontline tanks took out Arkemis at the end of the round. Djinn Chwala got away by the skin of his teeth to reach the next round.

round 2.jpg

Round 2 went down in a similar fashion. Jem Meteor fired at the midfield again and the other 3 archers pounded the next enemy tank, grinding him down to 3 health. Djinn Chwala took his leave and the Carnage Titan had the enemy gladiator for desert.

round 3.jpg

Dhampir Infiltrator was now in first enemy position. Jem Meteor fired at the midfield as usual and the other archers now picked the enemy off one by one: first the Infiltrator, then Gargoya Devil and finally there remained 2 harmless archers at the enemy frontline. Carnage Titan did some more carnage and it looked sweet for victory in the next round.

3 quick archer strikes finished the battle early in the fourth round. The timing was good cause there was footy on the telly.

I love this card!

The Grim Reaper is a very affordable Untamed reward card. I got a max level card for about $15 and was very happy to include him in my Death Deck. Together with other archer, he can inflict a great deal of damage, especially at max level with Piercing.

I hope you liked this post and the featured battle! See you next time, Splinterheads!
