Social Media Challenge - Untamed Reward Cards

Hi Splinterheads, here we are for another Social Media Challenge!

I have been focusing on stocking up and leveling up my Untamed reward cards lately. Not only are prices low at the moment, I am also very reluctant to invest in entirely new cards right now. In a recent POST I featured my favourite Untamed reward card, Nightmare. I also noticed that there other really good Untamed reward cards in the Death Deck. All 4 of them are actually really good. These cards are Nightmare, Phantasm, Grim Reaper and Dark Ferryman. Take a look:

Nightmare and Phantasm are really fast. I have them both at level 9 and they can both be used as tanks as they also have good defenses (Nightmare has Phase and Phantasm has Return Fire and Retaliate).

In today’s post, I want to look at the other 2 Untamed reward cards that I stocked up. I decided to max them out: Grim Reaper and Dark Ferryman.

Grim Reaper is a great card. He doesn't cost too much mana, has great range power and good abilities. I like him a lot because he is a range attacker, who fits very well into my Death Deck.

His Abilities are Affliction, Oppress and Piercing. As he has 4 range, he can wipe out a low mana enemy with Piercing quite easily. At max level he is also quite fast. It cost me under $15 to max him out so I was very happy and I see it as an investment.

The other Untamed reward card I maxed out is the Dark Ferryman:

Another ranger, this time low mana, Dark Ferryman is very useful in low mana battles. He has two abilities: Cripple and Dispel. The second ability, Dispel, is very useful to debuff the enemy tank and because Dispel is a relatively rare ability, I see maxing him out also as an investment and again it cost me less than $15.

I consider the Untamed reward cards to be great value for money at current market prices. With the Bitcoin halving around the corner, which is very likely to start a crypto bull run, I decided to act now and buy up a bunch of BCX. These cards are great value for money due to their overall stats at max level. I want to show you a little battle featuring one of these little darlings, the Dark Ferryman.

The battle I am showing you today is a low mana bout with the following rulesets: Weak Magic, Equal Opportunity and Back to Basics. Three splinters are available: green, purple and gold.

Another reason why I am maxing out Untamed reward cards, besides the good market prices and their particular abilities, is to have more choices in my diamond deck. The Dark Ferryman fits nicely into the lineup for this battle, because he costs 3 mana, hits hard and has above average health for a 3 mana card.

The lineup has Crypt Beetle at the front, followed by the Corpse Fiend to act as a decoy in Equal Opportunity, Life Sapper, Soul Strangler, our boy Dark Ferryman and another decoy, the Furious Chicken.

Now that the team is ready to rumble, let's watch the battle:

My opponent fielded a similar team with death monsters and decoys but instead of selecting rangers, he chose a couple of tough melee opponents with more speed, so this was going to be hairy!

round 1.jpg

The battle began with my first decoy, Furious Chicken, being shipped off to KFC to be eaten for lunch. With the very next enemy hit, my Corpse Fiend got toasted, so this was not a good start for my team! Life Sapper then took out an enemy decoy and our boy Dark Ferryman took out the other decoy. We were back to a level playing field and the monster ratio was 3:3. My opponent still had more speed. A quick combo from Soul Strangler and Crypt Beetle took care of the Chaos Agent, bringing Pelacor Deceiver to the front and defining Silent Sha-vi the Equal Opportunity target with less health.

round 2.jpg

Round 2 began with a 4:2 advantage for my team. Both enemy monsters struck first but didn't inflict significant damage. Then came a triple hit to topple Silent Sha-vi to reduce the enemy to one.

round 3.jpg

In Round 3 came the final blow: another triple hit and Pelacor Deceiver was no more.

⚔WATCH BATTLE⚔

Dark Ferryman did really well in this battle. With 6 health, it meant he would be attacked last in my team while the entire team played well, hitting their targets with every shot and outperforming the enemy team even though my team was slower.

I love this card!

Now that I have leveled up my Untamed reward cards from the Death Team, I will next look at the Earth Deck. I have my eye on the Nectar Queen and the Harvester. Another card I think I will go for, which is not an Untamed reward card, is the el-cheapo Riftwatcher, Lichen Beast. At 2 cents per BCX, I might just put in the $8 to get a maxed copy.

I hope you liked this post and the featured battle! See you next time, Splinterheads!

WHAT IS SPLINTERLANDS?

Splinterlands is an autobattle digital card game on the Hive blockchain. The playing cards are NFTs, therefore they belong to you and you can trade, transfer or delegate them as you please. All you need to move cards and other ingame assets around is a Hive Keychain login. There are three types of battles you can play: ranked battles, brawls and tournaments. Every battle you win brings rewards, including SPS and/or loot chests containing cards, potions, packs and merits. The ingame currency is DEC and the governance token is SPS. For gladiator packs you need to earn merits through brawls and loot chests. Tournaments can bring you stacks of SPS if you play well. There are several third party card markets, including Peakmonsters.com and the best places to learn to play are PeakD and YouTube.

I hope you enjoyed this post and I will see you on the battlefield!
