New card series, new artwork

I was quite surprised when I visited the Splinterlands site today after being away quite a while. They have a really cute improved logo on their page and a lot of new artwork. Background is the latest card series „Rebellion“, which was released recently. The presale was quite a success with 500k packs sold and now the general sale is running.
The cards are looking impressive as you can see in this example post by

Building on past success?

While the option is there, with a new crypto bull market beginning, the question is: Can Splinterlands really make a Comeback and build on the success of the past days? In 2021 we saw daily active users of around 400k, today we are down to 60k. Of course a lot of that was bots, but this is another challenge the Game has to face. Is it enough and sustainable when a lot of people use gaming bots instead of playing themselve?

Another topic is the ever rising number of monster abilities. Does that make the game too complex, especially for new users? That number is down to an average of 150 per day, with only 5-10% of them buying the spellbook which only makes the game truly Web3 & Play2Earn. In 2021 we saw thousands of new players join every day. It will be crucial to bring those numbers up again.

Some good news

At least it seems that the land introduction went well and stabilize prices of DEC because you need those Token to work with Land. In addition the governance Token SPS has seen quite a rally in the past days, rising from 1.2 Cents to a current level of 3 Cents. Thats still far away from prior ATHs but at least a first positive signal that the game could make it.

What do you think? Will Splinterlands make it back to the Top3 Web3 Games?

People are becoming more active and I guess that is the influence of the price

Let’s hope so. A lot of people have invested in this game and the assets lot 80-90% of their value.

The more complex the game gets the harder onboarding will become. Hopefully the rank battle portion of the game stays as simplified to play as possible. Real them in with Rank Play and let them decide if they want to dig deeper. I suspect we will see an influx of players again once the daily/weekly earnings hit a level that warrants such attention. For that we need the bull run to hit our Splinterland assets.

Bin gespannt!
