Dying or Thriving?

I'll be the first to admit that I do not have a green thumb. If anything, I have a black thumb. Sure, I have been able to pull some tomatoes out of my garden from time to time, but it seems like anytime @mrsbozz and I have any sort of indoor plant we kill it. There is clearly a delicate balance between overwatering and underwatering a plant and as of now we have yet to discover that balance.
Ignoring the fact that we need new windows, I am about at my wits end with this aloe plant that was given to us a while ago. The fact that it is still alive is a small miracle in itself, but although it isn't dead yet, I wouldn't necessarily say it is thriving.

Yes, it does seem to have a some new growth sprouting out of the center, but the rest of the plant just confounds me. Where I would expect it to be lush and green, it is instead just kind of droopy and brown in spots. I did a kick Google search about the flattening bends that you see on the left hand side, but I wasn't really in the mood to understand the information I was reading at the time.
In any event, this small plant has some important parallels to the current crypto markets right now and my position within them. I wouldn't say my investments are dying, but I don't feel they are thriving right now either. On the traditional side of things, the opposite is true. I definitely think my investments are thriving and that gives me some small hope that my personal future might not be as bleak as I sometimes fear.

Despite mostly mainstream adoption, there still seems to be a large amount of FUD out there, especially when it comes to altcoins. There are a couple that I have a decent holding in, and while I knew from the start they were a moonshot, it still depresses me a little bit when I see some of the negativity surrounding a few of them on legacy social media. Specifically "X", which I know should be my first warning right there, but it's hard not to doom scroll from time to time.
It's nice to see BTC reaching for $100k again, but I just hope that eventually we see some sort of alt season. I'm not one of those folks who think HIVE is going to run up to $3 again (even though it should give the use cases), but I wouldn't complain about $.25. I might even move some of my liquid HIVE back into HBD at that price.
Splinterlands
It's been just about a week that I made some big moves with my Splinterlands land. I removed all of my cards from my seven land plots, waited the three days for the cooldown to end, and then reapplied them in a more favorable configuration. You can read my post last week to see how this changed my production stats, but this was the first time I have actually collected since then.
Unfortunately my plot in Trauton or whatever it is called has become deficient in grain, so I had to send some grain over from Briarwood to that region. I sent 200,000 grain over and received 180,000 grain in return after all the taxes and fees. That honestly seems a bit steep to me, but it's all tertiary tokens anyway, so does it really matter?
I also sold the wood I had collected for something like 2,000 DEC which was just enough to get me into the latest Wild Season. I also used some of my glint to buy some stuff off the shop. I picked up some reward card draws, 30 ultimate chests, and some merits. I also turned in my merits to buy 44 Gladius packs. I actually pulled a decent number of Gold Foil cards in my Gladius packs which is good since I participate exclusively in GF Guild Brawl battles.
HIVE in General
After the recent hardfork I was having a bit of trouble normalizing my voting power. I was finally able to keep it right around the 80% mark, but lately things have dropped back down to 70% and below. In turn, I have started to adjust my manual curation amounts a little bit. I say this as an apology to those who maybe used to get a bigger vote from me. My hope is that eventually things will normalize again. I know that it doesn't matter as much now after the hardfork what you voting power is, but I am a creature of habit (and kind of anal), so I like to keep it around that 80% mark.
Silver

As I mentioned before, a while ago I made a deal with @bulliontools to send him some liquid HIVE in return for some 1oz silver pieces. This is the last round I received from him as part of that batch. It's another piece in the Legendary Warriors set and it features Genghis Khan. I don't know how accurate it is, but when I was watching the Marco Polo series on Netflix (before they cancelled it), they made a point of pronouncing Genghis with a "j" sound at the beginning versus the hard "g" that most people in America would say. Again, I don't know how accurate that is, but I found it interesting.
This is a pretty cool piece and I am glad I added it to my collection. Especially given the recent price of silver!
Holozing
My @holozing holdings are doing pretty well. I have about 1.2 Million staked ZING tokens (all of them earned, none of them bought), 7.33K sitting liquid, and another 900,000 pooled in the liquidity pool for that sweet sweet 48% APR. I've also got about 308 Holodust in my account which is honestly a lot less than I would have hoped for, but oh well. I've also got two alpha vials that I am waiting on opening (because why not).
GoMining
My GoMining Farm is humming along pretty well. I recently made an upgrade to my miner that bumped it up to 52.55 TH at 15W/TH. Which is a good thing since my bonus miner I got for signing up and completing some tasks finally expired the other day.

This is still a very long term investment, I don't expect to see an ROI for three to four years unless the price of BTC suddenly hops on a rocket ship. Despite that, it has been fun to have another passive investment. I like the idea of my money working for me even if it is a slow drip. Many thanks to Marky for helping me get started in this. If you are interested, feel free to use my referral link above, or head over to @themarkymark's blog and use his referral link in his posts.
He even has a clan started for Miner Wars that is gathering a really strong group of people. We should see some good returns over the next year (I hope).
That's all I've got for this week. Have an awesome weekend and do your best to thrive!

Not everyone is good with plants, such is life! The markets certainly have been goofy and there's a lot of FUD out there making things worse. I'm not sure what to expect either to be honest, things have behaved differently than any past cycle. Maybe those past cycles are not irrelevant that BTC is a mainstream commodity?
Nice to hear you pulled more gold Gladius cards. I don't usually play gold foil because I have to rent to many cards to be competitive. Do you have a gold Quora? That would be a game changer. I've never managed to pull one in gold foil myself.
Good luck with GoMining, I looked at it but the ROI is so long that I decided not to jump into the pool. But with crypto mining the period to recoup those investments is always long.
That is some very nice silver, Genghis Khan! He was an interesting man. He grew a huge empire that was tolerant to religious differences, low tributes, and then fathered hundreds of kids. I think five percent of the Asian population has direct genetic ties to him personally! The Legendary Warrior series are really nice, great pickup for your stack!
Yeah, things seem really different now and it seems the banks are still trying to flex their muscles and slow everything down. I don't think I even own a regular foil Quora, so no luck there! I think if you can get in a good clan the rewards are better in GoMining. There is also a pretty good return on staked tokens if you just want to hold GMT. Plus, if the price of BTC goes up to $250K, that changes everything.
My understanding is that with the latest hard fork changes, your votes remain at a constant value until you run out of voting power so it isn't as important to keep it high...though of course you don't want to run out.
I think that is right. Honestly, I read about five different posts explaining it back when it happened and I still couldn't figure it out!
I am always happy when the weekend arrives. That is the healing period of my VP. Both because I am not that active here during the weekends and also a lot less interesting posts.
My wife takes care of the plants. I will take some pictures when I am at home. Certainly the one which is climbing the walls is just beautiful.
I try to do the same with the weekends, but it doesn't always work out if I am bored! Then I find myself on HIVE more than I normally would be. You are lucky, my wife might be even worse than me with plants!
Let's be honest, we are both lucky with our wifes :)

I’m by no means an expert on indoor plants. But from what little I can see, I’d suggest repotting it into a slightly bigger pot with excellent drainage. Aloe is typically an easy plant to maintain. If you pot it with water catching plate attached to it, the plant will thrive taking water when needed instead of you flooding the roots and causing them to rot. Which is what it looks like from that picture. It will fix itself in the right conditions.
Good luck
!pimp
Thanks for the tips! I will definitely look into that. I'd like to try and turn things around with this plant!
My grandparents had a huge aloe plant. Many of the branches/sprouts/pieces looked like yours. But it kept getting new sprouts, so they never worried too much. I just remember every time one of us would get a cut, grandma would break off a piece and rub the aloe gel from inside on the cut.
I remember that too from when I was younger. My mom had a really nice one, though I remember hers being much more full and lush than ours. Maybe that just comes with time.
As far as the aloe plant, my wife says it may be getting too much direct sunlight. We have ours sitting under our covered back patio and they are doing fine. As far as crypto investments, I am done with all things crypto except Hive, and frankly I am just here for what is left of the community now and blogging. I'm still trying to figure out the rhythm for voting and curation right now as well. It has really thrown me for a loop.
Okay thanks, I have a couple good suggestions to try for the plant now. I'm sorry to hear about the crypto thing, but I understand.
It might still thrive, @bozz! Remove the outer dead leaves.
Yay! I like your silver!!!

Those outer leaves are dead?
Yes, they are, @bozz. You may choose to leave them till they are all dried. It looks like the other one will be okay as well. Per ai: To grow aloe vera, provide bright, indirect sunlight, use well-draining soil (like cactus mix) in a pot with drainage holes, and water deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings to prevent root rot. Keep temperatures between 55-80°F (13-27°C) and avoid overwatering, especially in winter, to help this low-maintenance succulent thrive indoors or outdoors in warm climates.

Overwatering is probably the issue with your plant :)
In terms of having curation power at 80% that is basically you wasting your curation power. You put 80% of your curation power into a bank account that earns 0% interest 😆
The faster you spend it the better for you, time value of money. The best curators like acidyo keep their curation power around 0% now :)
We haven't watered it in probably a month or so, but I clearly don't know enough to argue :) I still don't get it. How does it ever recover then? Seems like I would be at a point where I want to vote but I can't. That's not fair to the people I curate.
It should never recover too much, but you can keep a cushion say 10% where you don't go below unless you really want to vote something. It recovers 20% per day approximately, see acidyo voting mana is under 1%:

I'm no plant expert, but we've had an aloe plant for many years that keeps going. I also seem to do okay with the orchids people keep giving us. They seem to be a standard gift, but it means more work.
There's a lot going on with Hive with some interesting projects. I think it needs to be sold as an alternative to the mainstream platforms without some of their issues. I think you know I dumped 'X' ages ago so I have no idea what it is like now.
I still have my X account for some things here and there, but I would hardly say I am active on it.
Unfortunately I think in the Altcoin world, speculators are always going to be drawn to the newest, shiniest thing because the only way to really make money is to get in before the crowd and get out before the crowd does - so I worry that Hive will trend downwards purely because it's not new.
30 Ultimate Chests? That's amazing!
I'm in this weird position with my Splinterlands Gladiators because I've maxed out all the cards except 3 of the legendaries... so I guess I keep going... but if rumors of a new Gladiator card set start to crop up, I might start saving the merits instead...
Yeah, that seems to be the case with altcoins. Hopefully though HIVE has been so fringe for so long that it is still new to a lot of people. Kind of how people thought Paul Mcartney was new after he did that song with Kanye or whatever. That is impressive that you have so many Gladiator cards maxed out. I must be slacking!
Hahaha, or Kate Bush after Stranger Things.
I do think altcoin speculators are looking for new new as opposed to 'new to them' - they want to truly be the literal early investors.
Ah, truly, I think Gladiator progress is more about your Guild than literally anything else.
My guild actually just dropped down because so many people have gone dormant lately. Yes Kate Bush for sure!
Ok I need ot check out gomining!
😃
is that aloevera? i think it needs to be moved to a bigger pot, right?
Yes it is. That is a good question, I don't know which is why I asked. I just ordered a bigger pot, so I will try that out. I trust your judgement.

STOPI think your aloe plant will be fine. I have managed to kill almost everything I have ever planted but the aloe plants I have had in the past have grown to the point of annoyance. I think the pot will be a limitation though, mine were in the soil which I understand is not an option where you live.
Ah yeah, I ordered a new pot. This seems to be doing better than I would have guessed. It think getting something with better drainage will help.
I like the pot, although I would put it in a larger pot. Hope it recovers though. Ah crypto I was just thinking over the weekend apart from Bitcoin what is the point of crypto, I mean investment wise. It is no longer a shiny new thing and the image of it here is receding back to being scam and a thing done by shady characters lol!
That's too bad that people are feeling that way. I think it just proves that the FUD machine is still very much in play. I bought some new stuff for the plant. I will try to get some photos for a proper post!
I have an over-sized aloe in my kitchen with a southern facing view, it's doing fine. Yea, if it weren't for PMs getting a lot of traction action I'd be glum over my Crypto holdings by now. I'll chalk it up to diversification, one asset up while another is not-so-up.
!PIZZA
We keep ours in a west facing window, but I moved it off the sill until I can get it transplanted. The stuff just came yesterday and I think getting it in a pot with better drainage will make a huge difference. I hope so anyway.
