A Tribute To The Fierce Women of Splinterlands

I don't know if you have been following this, but the recent Barbie movie has started some fiery conversations over there on an otherwise so-happy Web2 world. Barbie has empowered and inspired women across the globe while some members of the other gender felt threatened by the film.
Just the other day I stumbled upon these posters made but someone simply adding slogans from one-star reviews probably written by random guys in their parent's garage. The one below is my absolute favourite!

But weren't there strong female role models in the mainstream before Barbie? If we jump back into the safety and warmth of Web3, I really feel like Splinterlands has been ahead of its time with some awesome female characters without making a fuss about it.
In this post I'll take a look at some of the most badass, ultra-violent, women mons...units who are constantly kicking ass in Splinterlands.
IIDRI FYRE
The first one is the super hot Iidri Fyre of the Fire Splinter. This unit doesn't have a direct attack strength but has two very useful abilities making her a force to reckon with. Taunt will make all enemy monsters focus their attacks on her allowing your other units to stay safe and perform their own attacks. With 8 health and 3 armour, Iidri Fyre can take a beating for a while and when all runs down, it's time for a payback.
When Idri Fyre dies, her Redemption ability will trigger and cause damage to all enemy units. This will make her, well, kinda explode... an interesting ability I think I've almost seen used by my ex-girlfriend in real life.
I haven't been using this card that often myself because the Redemption ability is available on level 2 and I happen to have only two cards when three are needed to upgrade. So patiently waiting for that one and then let things burn.

She swelled with anger, and in a fury of fire and ash, a great inferno exploded all around her. Legionnaires within a hundred feet were incinerated, with nothing left of them but smoking boots and bits of charred flesh. The rest fled for cover.
Captain Katie
All the weak men and other creatures will tremble in the back line when facing Captain Katie, and for a very good reason they are definitely not safe back there. Katie will use her Snipe ability to target enemy monsters with ranged, magic, or no attack that are not in the first position, in order of their positioning.
What makes the ability even more lethal is her Bloodlust ability - with every kill she grows stronger as Bloodlust adds +1 to all her stats. This includes her already strong magic attack(3) that will of course ignore armoring making a kill almost certain.
Wife material score: 9/10

The wind was whipping her face, but she didn’t mind. Most of the other airship captains wear thick scarves on their faces to prevent windburn, but not Katie. Her skin is too tough for the likes of windburns.

Ava The Undaunted
Looking like a runaway from Mad Max films, Ava The Undaunted is very cool in a way that she probably won't take any shit from no one and could perhaps deal with the Mad Mel himself.
With her Waepons Training ability she will turn peaceful, non-attacking, monsters into killing machines. She makes the otherwise idle Gelatinous Cube turn into a ranged attacking piece of jelly. Add another offensively useless creature like the Furious Chicken on her side and deal some massive ranged damage to your enemy.

The traitor who had revealed the location of the rebel camp was the former sheriff of Hogsfeet. She found him in his mansion, in bed with his slaves. She killed him too, but she took her time with it.
She has a lethal ranged attack of 3 and the Weapons Training ability will provide both of adjacent non-attacking monsters a ranged attack of 2 points. If you are lucky enough to get three copies of the card, an upgrade to the next level will unlock the Shatter ability.

Disintegrator
She has shiny orange eyes and smoke coming out from a pipe attached to her. This frightful-looking unit has quite strong armour and plenty of health. Disintegrator isn't the fastest one but but does some good enough melee damage when it is her turn.
Her Demoralize ability reduces the melee attack strength of all enemy monsters making her a valuable asset in melee-only battles.
To be completely honest, I'm not exactly hundred per cent sure whether Disintegrator is (or was) a female. For some reason, I have just always assumed so. Nevertheless, she's a formidable unit and can cope with men, women, cubes, and other creatures.

Quora Towershead
I know. I've written a lot about Quora Townshead but what can you do? It's love. Not only is she one of the most powerful female units in the game, but she could very well be the most powerful unit in Splinterlands.
Using both melee and magic, Quora can easily take out a weaker monster in a single round and once that happens, it will activate the threaded Bloodlust ability. The next prey will be even easier catch with improved stats.
Those would already make her a bit over-powered unit but Quora is even more. In addition, she also has the Heal ability making her restore a portion of lost health each round.
“It’s true that I long for combat and adventure, but I do not wish to marry,” Quora replied to the old man.
Conclusion
Besides these five, Splinterlands has many, many other strong female characters which, in my opinion, shows how a Web3 game doesn't necessarily have to follow the invisible guidelines usually seen set in the mainstream entertainment business. We have come a long way from the days when the Mario brothers were rescuing the princess.
People who are into blockchain games generally have a different approach to these games as besides it being entertaining, it's also an investment. This allows the developers to take more risks, break barriers, and all in all make it more fun and unconventional as they don't have to please the masses in a traditional sense.
This post is dedicated to all the women of Splinterlands - both characters and players.
