Untamed x Rebellion Synergies | Dragon Splinter | Splinterlands

So far in this series I've looked at the Life, Death, Fire, Earth, and Water splinters. Now it's time to look at the Dragon Splinter and evaluate potential synergies between Untamed and Rebellion.

Untamed x Rebellion Synergies - Dragon Splinter

No-attack cards

image.png

There are two no-attack cards in the Untamed Dragon splinter.

These cards haven't gotten much use previously (or at least I personally haven't run into them much). Actually looking on https://splinterstats.net/battles.html I can't see them getting used much at all, and it makes sense given that there are a lot of better no-attack cards already available that have better utility.

When paired with Rebellion, these might get a little bit of life pumped into them. I say "little" because, again there are tons of very good no-attack cards that will often be better choices than these. However, Dragon Spirit with its high speed and Immunity+Flying could make for an interesting choice in Poison+Earthquake rulesets along with a Weapon Trainer, and Naga Brute will be circumstantially interesting in no-magic battles.

Overall though I don't think we'll see a massive increase in usage for either of these cards given all of the great alternatives that will be available.

Melee cards

Switching over to the Untamed melee cards we have 6 to look at.

The first two that pop up as great Akane synergies are The Vigilator and Dragon Jumper. Both of these will be terrific for Ambush plays given their high damage outputs. When there's a melee mayhem ruleset, The Vigilator will be a terrifying round 0 card to play.

Gloridax Guardian might get a teenie bit of value thanks to his Protect ability, but that's really it. Gloridax Soldier, meanwhile, gets a teenie bit of value from his Oppress (vs Grim), but again it's small given his 3 attack.

The Vigilator also gets great value from Flank cards, in particular the color ones (i.e. other than Hippo), enabling him to attack from the second position.

Dragon Jumper also gets a boost by pairing with other opportunity cards such as Torch Vizier and Chaos Jailer (who is an Ambush card himself, so using Akane + Dragon Jumper + Chaos Jailer and another Opportunity card could be pretty devastating if the enemy isn't expecting that).

I don't see much extra value for Robo-Dragon Knight, particularly as there are more and more strong tanks available in the game.

Mighty Dricken, on his side, is an incredibly rare card and his Scavenger ability at 1 mana is really awesome and gets additional value from the increased presence of Resurrect cards, however frankly he's so rare it won't really factor for most players.

Magic cards

Next, we have 2 Magic cards.

The Gloridax Magus, like his other Gloridax bros, will continue be mostly an afterthought. Despite Shatter being a good skill in the Modern meta, he's just not strong enough with his other ability or stats to be relevant.

Diamond Dragon, despite having Last Stand, probably won't feature too much either. Last Stand doesn't trigger in the Ambush round (I learned that the hard way) so there's no synergy with Akane there.

Ranged cards

In terms of Ranged cards we only have one to talk about, since we covered The Vigilator earlier in the melee section.

Scale Doctor is already an awesome card that gets a lot of usage, and I think it'll get added utility for unkillable Lily+Grim teams (to keep your backline alive while also repairing the front line, making everyone stronger with Strengthen, and adding Rust to boot). The more I think about it, the more I feel he'll be a huge standout for these lineups and is worth a pickup.

Summoners

Finally we have our Untamed Dragon summoners... we'll save the best (Kitty) for last :)

Kretch won't add much, and neither will Drake. Maybe a tiny bit for Drake given the value of Armor, but meh.

Brighton Bloom also doesn't have much synergy. She's still valuable in Earthquake rulesets, but I can't see a specific new utility with Rebellion.

Camila also isn't particularly interesting, except for the fact that she's a cheap (3-mana) Dragon summoner with a stat modifier.

Ok enough delaying, let's check out how Kitty synergizes with Rebellion:

  • Kitty will love Grim Smith. Just like Avina pairs with Grim by giving him a Heal, Kitty can do the same to keep him alive. It's slightly more expensive than with Avina, but should still be viable in low/mid mana matches, and will allow you to use other Splinters to get a different weapon trainer behind Grim, such as Daarg. I believe this will be a strong contender in 20-26 mana matches.
  • I think Kitty will LOVE Rage, because (a) it can give Weapon Training to a strong front-line tank like Grim or Almo, but also when it makes its way to the front it will be very beefy thanks to its own Life Leech.
  • I could see Kitty sort of digging Zebajin somehow, where you stick them together in a 14-mana match. It won't beat things like Llama Pelacor though, but if players try something else and you don't have a Llama then maybe?
  • Kitty will like Solace, who is a strong front-line Dragon tank for only 4 mana. In Amplify rulesets he'll be viable.
  • Some slower cards out there will benefit from Kitty's speed boost, such as Demise who needs a bit to get going w/ her Life Leech.
  • Anything with Immunity likes Kitty, and we have a few new Immunity cards in Rebellion like Redwyrm Dragon and Blackmoor Nymph that might get a small boost.
  • Though Mantaroth has his own True Strike already, he'll benefit from the added speed and will love Kitty in no-magic rulesets, where he can Repair himself while also getting survivability from Kitty's Tank Heal.

Overall, I think Kitty will remain the undisputed best summoner in the game. While she doesn't get MASSIVE new synergies (except maybe for Grim), she does get some new weapons that'll keep her indispensable at the top echelons of #splinterlands for some time to come.

Conclusion

The Dragon splinter in Untamed has some very strong cards on its own, and a few that synergize well with Rebellion. Specifically I'd focus on The Vigilator, Byzantine Kitty, and Scale Dragon as the standouts.

What do you think? Did I forget any important synergies?
