Predict The Battle Challenge Results

Welcome back to the Predict the Battle Challenge. Thank you to everyone who participated! We had 18 participants this first week, which I am very happy with. Hopefully next week we will have even more! So let's get to the results.

Battle 1

The first battle was a matchup between Tarsa and Thaddeus. Everyone chose Tarsa as the winner, and everyone was correct! Thaddeus chose 3 damage dealers in the back, but they were all squishy. Tarsa's opportunity monsers picked them off one by one. Meanwhile, up front, the Living Lava was able to shrug off the Cursed Windeku's thorns. When you lose in front and lose in back, you're probably going to lose. This one goes to Tarsa.

Battle 2

Battle 2 features Thaddeus's rabble against an 2-monster team fielded by the Wizard. Interesting setup from the Wizard, in that his second position monster is melee, so can't attack directly.

The front matchup is actually slightly tilted towards Thaddeus - Windeku should be dealing 4 damage/turn compared to the Unicorn's 3. And the life was equal after Thaddeus reduced the unicorn from 10 to 9. However, Thaddeus didn't have any ability to deal damage to the tank from the back line, and the Venari Knifer's thorns made quick work of the melee attackers once both tanks fell. The battle goes to Thaddeus. What do you think would have happened if instead of two melee attackers in the back Thaddeus put out a point or two of melee damage?

Almost everyone predicted this battle correctly (94%).

Battle 3

The third battle was a Khala vs Khala mirror match. Top invested more in the tank, throwing in the shieldbearer with taunt. Bottom had a 2-mana cheaper Chaos knight with protect. Both teams have a celestial harpy, arbalest, and time mage an arbalest (4 mana combined). Top rounded out the team with an herbalist and xenith archer. Bottom rounded out their team with a Luminous Eagle (6 mana, making up for the cheaper tank).

From a pure damage perspective, both teams are tied. They will both be doing 10 damage/round, including the arbalest's double strike. Top has the health/armor advantage 30 to 24 (after Khala buff). And top has taunt to prevent any snipers from picking off the damage dealer. The big differentiator in this match, though, is bottom's protect. Once protect is taken into account, top is only able to do 4 damage/round to the tank, while bottom can put out 9. Bottom's back row was exposed, with no taunt and squishy monsters, but without enough back-row damage dealing ability this one turns into a bloodbath. A little sneak or another opportunity monster would have gone a long way here.

This was the toughest battle of the round to predict. Only 28% of you got it right!

Battle 4

Next up we have General Sloan against Thaddeus Brood. From a numbers perspective, we have Sloan relying heavily on the Pelacor Arbalest who for damage - 6 damage/round after the buff for 6 mana is a lot of efficiency. Top has 8 points/round of damage total after ignoring the Gargoya meatshield. Thaddeus has 7, including 2 for thorns, and ignoring the two melee monsters out of position. Health/armor 23 to 18 in favor of Sloan, though the life leech will help to even that out. close after the Truthspeaker's shield and Thaddeus's health nerf.

This match turned out to be very close - if the arbalest was placed in the back so that he could get one more shot off it would have gone the other way (although Sloan was worried about sneakers, which is likely why he wasn't there). As it is, Thaddeus prevailed.

This was our 2nd hardest match of the week, with only 33% getting it correctly.

Battle 5

Next we have Tarsa vs Mother Khala. A 12 mana matchup, Tarsa threw in the Scavo Chemist as a meatshield. Health is 14 to 15, slightly in favor of Khala (after buffs). Damage is 5 to 5. Both teams have 3 damage worth of indirect attackers. So it's shaping up to be a very close match.

The individual matchups are not good for Khala here, though. The striker's 3 attack is enough to take out Khala's harpy in one hit (though there was a 15% chance that attack would miss). In this situation, fewer monsters worked out better, as Tarsa could keep the attack going at full strength while Khala was weaker each turn.

The battle went to Tarsa. Only 39% of you got this one right.

Battle 6

Our last battle of the night has Yodin squaring off against Daria. Daria fielded an all-melee team, meaning that all of Yodin's damage was going straight at the tank, even with his single sniper. This one came down to the wire, but in the end the Djinn was too powerful and Daria was the victor.

Results

Of the 18 participants only 1 was able to guess all 6 battles Congratulations to @brojustaverage who will be receiving the Chaos Legion pack. Nobody got 5/6 correct. 11 of you got 4/6 correct, and will split the 500 DEC (46 DEC each). In addition, everyone who participated will receive a delegation of a gold Chaos common through the end of this season (this won't necessarily happen every time). The pack/DEC are going out now and the gold delegations will go out later tonight. The full standings are:
