Here in the United States there's a couple of benefits especially for the Democrats. Not only does it prove that there's a dictatorship in this country despite the claims of Liberty and freedom. But also it's ultimately going to encourage people to support the Democrats all the more. By doing that you're basically saying indirectly. That because I disagree that means you can't be happy. Even though what you want to do has no real impact on me simply because I disagree justifies me making it so that you can't do it.

No idea - it is rather arbitrary to classify something as a “benefit”. A benefit to one is not to another. Anyways….we should also talk about the “benefits” of banning all marriage… because it is a sh** show after all isnt it? It is government sponsored tax designation. If you want your club (religion) to ban it - go ahead. The government should not be anti-gay ——- unless you want the Taliban style government. We dont need government to enforce your antiquated religious ideals and biases…which is exactly what people are trying to accomplish.

As gays are pushing fashions, trends et.c. allowing gays to marry can cause marriage to become popular even among heterosexuals. A lot of guys aren’t ready for that, but may feel the need to marry to keep up and not be seen as outdated. Marriage has been on a downward trend and allowing gay marriage may change that. So to avoid marriage getting popular it would be safer to just ban it.

In June, 2011, my state passed its Marriage Equality Act, which legalized same-sex marriages.

At that point, my wife and I had been opposite-sex married for about 8 years.

And nothing happened.

Our marriage certificate didn’t burst into flames, state troopers didn’t show at our door, and our insurance companies continued to recognize our marital status.

The law did not affect our opposite-sex marriage one iota.

In other words, the benefits of banning same-sex marriage are exactly the same as banning opposite-sex marriage.

WHY would any government have the power and authority to regulate ANY religious ordinance? A government that has the power to permit has the power to deny. The Japanese do no license marriage, they simply record it after the fact.

Any two (or more) people who want to be legally contracted to each others should be able to negotiate that contract. They should likewise be able to have that relationship solemnized and sanctified in any church willing to do that for them. The two things are NOT the same thing.

Look, you don't like same-sex marriage?

Fine, don't have one.

However, lots of us who may love someone of the same sex or gender, we want to be able to demonstrate our love and commitment to each other the same way as straight folks have been doing for forever now.

Not to mention that legal marriage confers certain legal benefits and rights on the couple which you cannot have otherwise.

The United States is, at least, supposed to be a nation of laws. And given that all Americans are supposed to have equal protection under the law, marriage equality is the only way to go.

To be honest, you're better off asking the question, “What man, in their right mind, would engage in heterosexual marriage?”. Marriage is nothing more than an elaborate, but ultimately worthless, display of affection with a really dodgy contract thrown in for the man.
