A Noxious Affair - Using DRAGONS in Battle!

avatar

This week's Share Your Battle challenge features the Dragon splinter! Dragons are one of my favorite splinters to use because you get a two for the price of one deal - one summoner, and two splinter's worth of monsters to choose from. I do love a good bargain! In the spirit of two for one, I also managed to get two dragon cards into my lineup for this week's battle - one summoner and one monster.

Today my battle will be showcasing Quix the Devious in our summoner position, and will also feature Djinn Chwalla playing a prominent role in our monster lineup. I'll cover them a little more once we get into the card selections, but both of them are prime Dragon cards which regularly see play in my Dragon lineups.

If you wanted to jump right to the action, the Battle Link is right here. Want to hear some more about the lineup? Read on further!

Here is the ruleset for out battle. It was a little bit of a tricky one - there was a Noxious Fumes ruleset, and unfortunately the three splinters which got left out were the ones I usually look to during poison battles - Fire, Water, and Earth.

This turned out to be a good ruleset for bringing some Dragon cards along because many of the Dragon monsters tend to be big and beefy, which is exactly what I'm looking for when monsters are taking poison damage every turn. Big and beefy is also helpful with the Spreading Fury ruleset, because bigger monsters are more likely to survive long enough to take advantage of Enrage.

My summoner of choice for this fight was the first guest star of the week, Quix the Devious! Quix is a great all-around summoner - for just 4 mana, the speed debuff he gives to the other team and getting to use Dragon cards is already worth the price of admission. If my opponent happened to bring any ranged attackers, then that ranged attack debuff will come in handy as well.

I started my team with our second star of the week - Djinn Chwala! Djinn Chwala is super beefy with 5 armor and 9 HP, and my gameplan for this battle was for Djinn Chwala to survive long enough to attack with some Enraged hits, while dishing out thorns damage to any melee monsters my opponent decided to bring into battle. My off-tank was Silent Sha-vi, who had enough health to survive a couple of turns of poison damage, and my hope was that it would be able to get off a few attacks on my opponent's back line.

The middle of my lineup was pure magic damage. Revealer would slow down my opponent's front monster with Stun while Magi Necrosi would be able to Snipe off any opposing ranged or magic attackers. My thought was that magic damage would hit straight to health, and would add up quickly once combined with the poison damage from Noxious Fumes.

At this point I was out of mana, so I threw in Corpse Fiend for a good measure. It wouldn't survive for long with all of the poison going around, but it might be able to soak up a hit or two to protect the middle of my lineup for a little while.

With the lineup set, it's off into battle! When I see the selected teams I am hopeful - my opponent has brought not one, but TWO ranged attacking monsters. This meant that Quix's debuff would be extremely helpful for the battle. On top of that, their primary source of damage - Pelacor Arbalest - was on the squishy side and shouldn't get the chance to deal much damage before being forced to leave the field of battle.

In the first round of battle there are no huge surprises. My monsters are able to get their attacks off, and a lot of my opponent's monsters are very weakened. In addition to those attacks, Djinn Chwala deals out some great Thorns damage as well. Do note that poison damage gets applied at the start of the second round, so as this screenshot is taken all of the monsters are about to take some damage and that Pelacor Arbalest is going to go down.

It only took one more round before the battle was essentially over - Noxious Fumes battles can go quick! After one more round of hits, my monsters are able to finish off the majority of the opposing lineup. All that remains is a lone Chaos Knight, which is about to die to poison. Game over! And again, if you wanted to see the whole battle for yourself, you can see it right here.

My strategy for this battle worked out perfectly - Quix was able to debuff my opponent's team and significantly reduce their damage output, while my monster's attacks paired with poison damage from Noxious Fumes knocked out all of the enemy monsters. Djinn Chwala was a solid tank at the front, dishing out heavy attacks as well as some serious Thorns damage.

The Dragon splinter is a lot of fun to play with, and Quix the Devious and Djinn Chwala are two of my favorite cards to bring into battle. I am a big fan of them both, and will continue to use them often in my ranked matches!
