Rebellion Sale Plans and Goals

Anyone playing or following Splinterlands should know that there is a huge event currently going on - the presale for the Rebellion expansion. In a little over a month, we will have a whole new set of cards to play with and to trade. I'm sure that many of us are very excited to lock in our pack purchases (and chances at those cool new airdrop promos!), and for anyone who is looking to make some moves with their assets or to otherwise bulk up their collection in the coming weeks, here are a few things to keep in mind in order to maximize your spending money and Splinterlands capital.

The Rebellion pre-sale represents an enormous opportunity to make changes to my Splinterlands experience. So far, I have been accumulating Chaos Legion cards and making do with a bare minimum of Untamed options. It works, but I am essentially playing with only half of the cards availible in the Modern format. With the release of Rebellion, I plan on making some serious improvements.

In this post I will be sharing my plans and goals for the Rebellion set release, with an eye towards maximizing my long term account value. Although this represents my idea of the best way to go about it, it is unique to my particular Splinterlands position and certainly does not mean that it is THE best way to approach the release. Like that I'm planning on doing? Feel free to use my plans as your starting point. Think I'm dead wrong? Feel free to let me know - leave a comment below!

The Gameplan

Rebellion is finally available for pre-sale, with packs being openable in early December. This is huge for me because as a player who joined the game around the release of Chaos Legion, I wasn't able to accumulate very many Untamed era cards. Overall I will be making a fairly large investment - between some other Splinterlands assets that I sold for the occasion and blog earnings that I have been saving up, I expect to roughly double my account's card value once the general sale begins (let's just say that the last year or so has been very unkind to my Chaos Legion collection value).

I am planning on splitting my investment roughly 3/4 packs and 1/4 single cards. On the pack side, in order to take advantage of bulk discounts, I pooled my pack purchases with a couple of my guildmates and we were able to reach the 10% bonus tier. For anyone thinking of making smaller purchases, I would definitely recommend doing something similar if you have other players that you trust, or are willing to join other community pools - don't leave those "free" bonus packs on the table!

Purchasing single cards will take up the rest of my investment. Mixing my purchase in this way allows me to have some fun opening packs, and then selectively pick up cards to fill any gaping holes in my collection. If single prices don't drop as expected then I may switch my allocation to pick up a few more packs instead, but otherwise I'll be purchasing a mix of (in decreasing priority) summoners, useful cards that will help me in ranked battles, and miscellaneous gold foil cards that may come in handy for gold foil brawls. The summoners in particular are the thing that I'm most excited for - the Rebellion set is our very first chance to get to play with abilities that we can choose after team lineups are already locked in!

My Goals

You can probably guess my general goals based off of my plans, but a major goal is to become more competitive on the ladder - currently I am working with a largely Chaos Legion deck with a mix of Bronze and Silver (mostly Silver) league level cards. Having summoners and cards from both set blocks available to Modern will help out a whole lot, especially in the early season. And who knows, depending on how things go I may be able to push even higher than silver! Given my amount of resources I think it is unlikely that I'll be able to pick up enough cards to get to a full silver deck (though if I can then that would be a huge bonus). Instead, I am aiming for getting some select splinters up to the Silver league level cap, with the remainder at Bronze.

As I mentioned at the start of this post, another goal is to maximize my long term account value. One of the things that I love about Rebellion is the changes they made to the airdrop system. Previously with Chaos Legion, you were incentivized to sit on unopened packs for SPS airdrops and the release of the new legendary airdrop cards. Now we can feel more free to crack those packs, which I will certainly do right at release! (And yes, I know you can still wait to get the chance to open the airdrops in packs...but this is a big improvement).

While I can't say for sure how quickly packs will sell out or how the price of cards (or for that matter, DEC or SPS) will change, my reasoning is that picking up a mix of assets will allow me to play on the ladder at a relatively reasonable price, and possibly even realize a small amount of returns along the way at some point. Again, this is just my initial plan and is subject to change based on singles prices. Hopefully they'll give me a nice return eventually - I'm planning on sticking around and am in no hurry!

Additional Considerations

As I mentioned in my post last week, it is often a good idea to keep an eye out for alternative opportunities. For example, land is cheaper than it has been in a long time, and SPS remains near its lows. If players continue to sell off non-Rebellion assets in order to buy more packs, then it may be possible to pick up some bargains. I personally wouldn't mind getting a plot or two if prices continue to drop, but otherwise that is just more powder for me to spend on Rebellion singles - this is a card game, after all!

I'm also really bullish on Rebellion. Since I play at Champ League though, I have set aside far more of my available funds to try and buy key single cards from the market at max level. However, because I want to support the company, I still purchased 300 packs during the presale so I at least have the two promo cards at silver league levels to start with.

I think the dual-element summoners will be very important for the modern format at the beginning, and I am really curious to see how the new battle mechanics work out. Very excited to see the first modern card rotation in the history of Splinterlands. This is going to be fun and I hope catalyzes people to enjoy battling again!

That sounds like a very good approach for the set release, I'm excited too! 😁
