Keeping Up With the Buzz - My Introduction to the Hive Community
It was suggested to me by @macchiata from @OCD to make an introduction post.
PREFACE
Splinterlands is my "escape" from the real world.
I don't get much time to play many games now that I am working full time, this game ignites my passion for CCGs/TCGs. The fact that each card is it's own NFT blows my mind, allowing me to sell/trade my collection to pick up new exciting cards.
Lucky for me, I work remotely from my home.
This allows me to be tied in to Splinterlands a bit more frequently than ever before.
I am in the United States, but have traveled to many parts of the world.
A benefit from working from home is "home" can be wherever my computer is located!
Currently, my game of choice is Splinterlands but I have also been leveling up in Rising Star and always have an eye out for that next big thing.
ALIAS
My alias can be read as either burns-ur-face or Burn-surface.
basically, I am either a epic comeback/mic-drop .... or ... a stove top.
INTRO TO SPLINTERLANDS
I first heard about Splinterlands when there was 315 days remaining in the SPS Airdrop. It seemed very similar to other card games I have played.
After some research, I determined that this was a project I wanted to get behind!
At this time, DEC = 0.00553 and SPS = 0.227
I slowly started off with a free-to-play account, doing the daily grinds in Bronze for 1-5 DEC per day on ranked battles.
The strategy was simple... take the airdropped SPS, convert to DEC, and sit on a DEC balance as that earned the most airdrop returns. This was allowing me to maximize my airdrop potential.
I then stumbled on to a twitch stream hosted by @clove71 and was all of a sudden introduced to a whole different side of Splinterlands; the actual game mechanics!
This is when I started to enjoy the game beyond just making small profits.
The first step I took was to convert some of my DEC I was holding in to assets (Cards/Plots/Packs)
I picked up a leveled up Summoner, then some monsters to go with it.
Before I knew it, I had a somewhat competitive silver league team!
I was even getting some recaps displayed on cloves streams (Which was always fun to watch and say "Hey, that's me!")
INTRO TO RISING STAR
Rising Star is a time based game where you pick an activity to perform, it grants you XP that allow you to level up, and has a countdown timer before you can select a new activity.
This game reminded me of Mafia Wars from Facebook. So, of course, I started my adventure quickly. It was really thanks to @bladesong for introducing me to this game.
I should have taken some time to read more in to this game first though...
Before I knew it, I had accrued over 2200 ego with less than 100 skill .... shooting my Ego over 95%!
If you don't know, the higher your ego percentage, the less you get rewarded for doing tasks.
Luckily, thanks to @drabs587, I was informed that I could do "Music Lessons" to raise my skill in order to lower my Ego. I am now 69 Music Lessons deep, raising my Skill over 700+ and lowering my ego to just under 60% ..... almost there!
SPLINTERLAND RAFFLES
After a month of playing, I stumbled upon a discord channel offering raffles for Splinterland cards, packs, and more! The discord name is: FutureDECscord
I started off slow at first, buying 1-3 raffle tickets. Once I realized it was a legit raffling setup, I began playing the odds... and buying 60-70% of the tickets on cards I really wanted. When I would win, I would end up getting the card I wanted for 20-30% cheaper than current market prices!
The community they have set up in this discord is a fun talkative group.
There are paid raffles (you send in-game DEC to a specific player to buy the raffle tickets), there are a lot of Free-raffles that you can enter without needing any DEC, and a lot of 50/50 raffles.
As of now, I am helping run the discord. Some stop by sometime and say hi!

WHATS NEXT?
For now, I will continue to play in Silver league, continue to check the active events, and participate in the FutureDECscord growth!
Am I worried about the current dip in the crypto market... watching SPS and DEC fall in the gutter?? no. I plan to buy little by little of cards I need at these discounted prices.

Chaos Legion general sale is coming.
I will be sitting on the sidelines for this one as I over-extended on older cards that I needed to complete my deck.
Although, I may use some of my vouchers to join in the Presale Phase 2 at 300 packs for the guaranteed airdrops. I still have 3 days to decide..
Every 300 packs purchased in Presale Phase 2 gets you 1 copy of each airdropped card of the remaining 13.
I am also tempted to buy another land... seems like it could be fun to have one!
it is a gamble for sure, since I could end up with a common land worth 1/2 to 1/3 the value I would pay... or I could get a rare land and see a crazy return... the odds are against me here...
ANYTHING ELSE?
The only other things I mess around with is some stock market. I like to daytrade and sell covered calls. I have been taking the profits from this and pushing it into Splinterlands!
I used to trade on Robinhood but now have moved to Webull.
I'm really no good at it, but still enjoy it!
