An Antoid Platoon typically consists of five to seven Fire Ants, each approximately the size of a man's fist. They are well armored and wield shields and spears that, while tiny, provide a formidable defense and offense against the antoid's foes. Operating through a shared hive mind, the Antoid Platoon is employed to defend Ant Miners, other workers, the colony, and its queen. They are also known to become aggressive when invaders encroach upon their homes and surrounding territory.

Absorb some melee damage

I like to think of Antoid Platoon as a baby Living Lava. It doesn't hit as hard and has less health, but it costs three less mana, meaning it works great for Little League battles. It also costs significantly less allowing it to be leveled up on a budget.

Summoners

Sticking with the budget mindset there are two summoners that work well with Antoid. A case can be made that Malric is also worthy of this list, but with Modern and Wild formats coming I am choosing to stick with Modern summoners.

Once Antoid hits level four and has a base two melee damage Tarsa makes it a heavy hitter with a total of three melee damage.
I've included Pyre as it is a F2P summoner and shouldn't be overlooked. The speed boost and three mana cost is nice, but Tarsa is typically the better play.

Key Players

Antoid can work with a few different strategies, but my favorite is for lower mana battles or Little League ruleset battles. Sticking with this mindset...

Card
Synergy
If low mana is the name of the game then the Fiend's are always a good choice. The Chicken works as well, but the Fiend has the advantage of being able to attack.
A very hard hitter for five mana. The sneak ability allows it to attack from behind Antoid and strike at the opponents back row.
Strike at the enemies weak points from the safety of the middle of the pack.
Similar to Serpentine Spy, but the addition of some armor
Similar to Tenyii, a nice hard hitter for relatively low cost. Protected just behind Antoid Brute can do some damage.
For the Super Sneak ruleset, placing Antoid in the back and using Spirit's Triage ability can be a game changer

The Battle

This battle is a perfect example of a low mana fight in which Antoid's Shield ability allowed the back line to go to work.

How did it go?

1️⃣ The Shield ability allowed Antoid to take all three of Elven Defenders blows and still remain standing the entire battle.

2️⃣ Tenyii's ability to strike the back line meant that Antoid didn't take the extra couple of hits as the enemy back line quickly fell.

3️⃣ Tarsa's health and melee damage buffs were the MVP of this battle. Antoid was able to withstand the entire battle and Tenyii was able to one-shot the opponents back row.

Wrap Up

Antoid is a great low mana battle tank. It won't stand up to magic attacks as well, but you will be hard pressed to find a better low mana tank when melee is coming your way. It isn't as strong as Living Lava, but for a fraction of the cost it can be used in similar ways if the mana count is right.
