Splinterlands Share Your Battle Challenge - Radiated Brute

One of My Favorites

I was excited to see Radiated Brute as this week's Splinterlands Share Your Battle Challenge. This was one of the first gold cards I purchased as I started to develop a leveled up Fire splinter team. Her reach ability, decent health and melee damage pair well with Tarsa.

THE BATTLE

Ruleset
Target Practice, Spreading Fury - 27 Mana cap

MY TEAM

Card
Strategy
I choose Tarsa for this battle for the extra health and melee. If the mana cap had been higher or I had seen my opponent using Mylor recently I would likely have opted for Kelya for the extra armor.
Once I opted to go with Tarsa I was going all in on melee to take advantage of the Spreading Fury ruleset. I was hoping my opponent would go the same route and Lava would be able to absorb a few more hits with the shield ability
The card of the hour! With Tarsa's buff Brute will be able to inflict three damage, all from the comfort of the second position behind Lava.
More melee that can attack from the middle of the lineup thanks to the sneak ability. This also gives my first three cards seven health after Tarsa's buff. A tough lineup to cut through.
Uraeus is a bit soft, but with the one armor, sneak, Tarsa's buff and a strong set of cards in front, it should be able to deal some serious damage before being taken out.
A zero cost insurance play in the back.

My opponent had a similar strategy and also had a great card to negate some of my advantage in the Halfling Alchemist. I thought it was an interesting choice for my opponent to place a ranged attacker in the second position and ultimately it may have cost them the match as the ranged monster couldn't attack once in the first position. Seeing as this battle came down to the last hit that likely made all the difference.

Further Thoughts

Looking at the battle using Splintertools I was surprised to find that my win rate increased by moving Corpse Fiend just behind Brute. I couldn't determine what was driving this until I dug into the simulated battle logs.

In the actual battle my opponents Elven Cutthroat slips into the back row and destroys Corpse Fiend with one of the first attacks of the match. By moving Corpse Fiend into the middle of the lineup it forces Serpentine Spy, with the opportunity ability, to use his first attack taking down the Fiend. The Fiend still falls with one shot, but my opponent is forced to use another attack to do so.

This is one of the minor details that keeps me on my toes, learning more and shows how deep the strategy of the game can get. It may feel like a coin toss at times, but by drilling down into every ability and detail you can move the win percentage needle more in your favor.

Two More Examples

I use Brute often so I wanted to take the opportunity to share a couple of other battles. The first I went up against Mylor with a heavy melee team and came out on top, barely! The second one was interesting because I had just asked the pizza discord the day before if the demoralize ability was stackable, and here it came stacked on me 🤣

WRAP UP

Radiated Brute is a strong card out of the second position. The Reach ability and Tarsa's buff make her a heavy hitter that is tough to slow down. Getting Tarsa up to level three and Brute to level four adds another +1 to the damage column. Level six is beyond my scope right now, but as my battle example with the Spreading Fury ruleset shows, the enrage ability can make her even more deadly.

At just over one dollar for a gold card that I use frequently I think this card is a steal. It should not only lead to many wins, but a 10% DEC bonus. What could be better?
