What's up Slinterlands and Hive community!
Silver First Quest26.png

Since the last Share your battles weekly challenge with the Dragons theme, I've been exploring Dragon cards on different matches and testing some different strategies. RIFTWATCHERS expansion saw the upcoming of new monsters, one of them, a massive red dragon, standing tall of the top of the mountain, with scales that can pierce any armor and angrily breathing flames of destructions: Ladies and Gentelmans, witness the Power of Agor Longtail!

Agor Longtail Power

agor ability.PNG

Agor is a Legendary Dragon monster of the Riftwatcher Edition and costs a whopping 15 Mana to summon this monster in the batlle

  • 11 Health and 6 Armor a beefy tank that can withstand Tons of damge
  • 3 Speed not too fast nor too slow, can result in some dodge against lower speed monsters
  • 3 Melee AND 2 Magic damage! A mixture of damage can never go wrong:
    • You won't go into the frustration of wasting a massive Melee attack on enemy 1 Armor anymore, Magic attack will go straight to its Health
    • Enemies with Void or Shield won't necessary be on the way of Agor attacks.
    • 2 types of damage is better than Double Strike
  • Taunt attracting all enemies attacks! Being a beefy Tank is a must to withstand all the damage but coupled with these couple abilities, Agor taunt will be a challenge to get over it:
  • Flying 25% of evading enemy attacks is always welcome resulting in more misses from enemy monsters and longer survival for this Dragon
    • Against enemy monster with Speed: Evasion chance: (3-1)x10% + 25% = 45% so nearly half its attacks will be missed
  • Void Armor Most taunt monsters are weak against Magic damage but not for Agor as it has to go through its Armor before affecting its health.
    • Having Repair ability_repair.png and Protect is a crucial buff for Agor's surviving

The Synergy

They call it the Taunt Meta, keeping the taunt monster alive a long as possible while dealing damage from the backline, so in this case we need:

Tank Heal

Tank Heals are super effective on Agor Longtail because of its high base health as well as being a taunt that receive all of enemies attacks (assuming we placed Agor on the 1st position to deal both Magic and Melee damage)

Goblin Psychic and Merdaali Guardian are part of the Starter Deck and very cheap to rent. I often go for Merdaali for the cheaper Mana cost but that doesn't deny how useful Goblin Psychic with 2 Magic damage in addition to its Tank Heal

Repair

Don't sleep on Repair ability_repair.pngas it's equally as important as Tank Heal thanks to . Being able to absorb all sort of damage thank to the Void Armor makes the Repair ability_repair.png ability a powerful support to have on Agor's team.

Both these monsters have Repair on level 1. Scavo Hireling is my go-to because of it being Neutral, low mana, very cheap to rent and is safe from opportunity attacks thanks to the Taunt.
Adelade Brightwing is great on its own, deals magic damage but too slow and needs high mana cost, althought it becomes interesting with its 3rd ability at level 2... Ressurect

Ressurect

At the silver league, Adelade BrightWing can be a massive support for our Taunt with both Repair and Ressurect . As for the Bronze league, River Hellondale can be picked along side Merdaali for an addition support.
When a monster is ressurected, it comes back with 1 Health and All its Base Armor (Agor will come back with 1 Health + 6 Armor) : 7 effective hit points against all damage thanks again to Void Armor.

The Battle

Battle1.PNG

Ruleset: Odds ones Out
Mana Cap: 28 Mana
Active: Fire, Water, Life, Dragon
Battle Link

So in this battle we have:

  • Daria Dragonscale for the +1 Melee Buff making Agor dealing additional damage
  • Merdaali for the Tank Heal
  • Scavo for the Repair ability_repair.png
  • Whelp Herder an opportunity monster to take down squishy enemies

Enemy: Tons of damage!

After 2 Rounds

ROUND 4.PNG
Enemy hits are ruthless but we got the upperhand thanks to the Taunt combined with Heal + Repair.
Some key misses from enemies turned the tides in our favor! (Never underestimate flying )
We can't deny Herder job for sniping Serpentine Spy

The Result:

battle3.PNG

A flawless VICTORY
Agor Longtail with Full Health and ONLY 1 Armor missing.
Agor evaded 5 attacks MISS
Countless Heals and Repairs
Whelp Herder doing its job as an opportunist
Mind the difference in levels between my monsters and enemy monsters!

Conclusion

That's it for today! I hope you enjoyed reading through my blog about Agor Longtail, I've got a couple of battles to share but didn't want to make this post a bit too long to read.

If you got other strategies or playing Agor at higher Elo, I would love to hear how it is played and what are the best synergies for this monsters.
