First Time swinning in the pool of Splinterlands Silver League: How was my Experience

avatar

Bronze league was getting boring, almost 80% of matchups against Venari Wavesmith or Oshannus. Either you learn how to counter, play the same comp or keep on losing aginst it!

That's when I decided "Why not take a trip to Silver" through rentals and see what it gives?

1) That was fun

Why do we play a game if it's not for the fun?? but If I want to summarise the difference between Bronze and Silver in term of opponents:

  • Less bots compared to Bronze, so you actually think how you'll play the opponents thus being more competitive
  • A rich variety of enemy composition: You get to play different kind of splinters, even the legendary ones like Chansus and Yodin. You never know what you'll be facing!
  • Higher Mana Cap: More flexibility in Monsters selection
  • More rewards (on average): 4 DEC/win on Bronze I VS 10 DEC/win on Silver II

2) Level of difficulty

Not all silver is insanely difficult as the rumors going on. In fact, we can devide it into 3 parts:

  • Rating [1000-1300]:
    • Pretty similar to Bronze I
    • Most Summoners are at Level 1: Alric and Mylor are the most played
    • The pool is softer since many are moving up (through renting) for better rewards
  • Rating [1300-1600]:
    • Battles are getting harder and start facing better cards
    • Bortus being played more
    • Facing Lama Kron / Lama Golem more frequently
  • Rating [1600-1900]:
    • The true Silver Elo: Players are way better
    • Summoners mostly at level 2-5
    • Facing a lot of legendary Summoners: Yodin and Dragons (Daria/Camilla)
    • Yodin is BROKEN!
    • Less magic damage monsters
    • Passive tanks like Almo and Lord Ariantus are more frequently played

3) Was it Profitable?

I do believe it depends on the monsters you rented/ rental cost/ playing frequency.

I've rented many Gold Foil and Alpha Cards for the extra 10% Bonus + Burned my ECR to 30%

I've completed 2 Daily quests and quite pleased about what I got:

dq2.PNG

Here's a summary of all the Maths:

REW.PNG

Around 800 DEC or $9 at current price is really profitable, Funny how I got more from the DQ rewards!

4) My cards

Since it's my first visit to silver, I can't speak about my cards and the analysis behind my picks.

Many fellow members can provide way better guides on the best compositions for Silver league!

However, I do believe that Pelacor Conjurer is Underrated especially associated with a Healer:

pelac.PNG
  • 4 Speed + Flying: Truly a dodge Master, I can't count how many times the enemy tank missing his shot
  • Magic Reflect: Making Mages Cry (Talking to you Venari and Wood Nymph)
  • All this for ONLY 2 MANA

That's it for my journey! It'll be great if someone could share a guide/infos about the most viable compostions for Silver!

Man, great to know this. I am actually with 1.3k rating and thinking about renting up too. You got a sweet Uraeus on that one, great card.

I couldn't agree more with the Pelacor Conjurer statement. I did an analysis of every chaos legion card accordingly with every single league in the past, and the Conjurer was definitely one of the best cards for my money. It is consistently good at pretty much every league, and in higher leagues it is even stronger.

I'm not too far from you! Currently at 1.1k rating thanks to the rewards that pushed me to Bronze II!

While not the best in Bronze, but Conjurer shines from Silver+ especially in low mana battles. I'm happy I got the confirmation from you :D

Thanks a lot for the boost!

Nice epic drop! I am happy to hear it was profitable for you, it means good and smart players should be able to move up out of bronze and grow!

Focus on counters to the meta legendary teams, you need at least 7-8 damage per turn to drop that last stand kron, I usually have a 3 attack mantoid in there somewhere when I manage to win.

Really Appreciate the encouragement! Thanks a lot for passing by and giving me tips!

I was doing the maths like you said about how much I can deal damage to Kron, I've used the Life comp with double healers and level 3 Peacebringer (he got 3 damage like mantoid and cost 4 mana)

Double healer should work, its not enough to do 7 damage you have to stand up to his 5 magic damage per round! I love discussing strategies :)

It'll be tricky if playing in low mana but at higher mana I had:
Shieldbearer lvl 3 : 3 damage
Divine healer lvl 4: 1 magic
Venari Crystalsmith lvl 3: 1 damage
Peacebringer lvl 3 : 3 damage
Djinn Renova if I remember: 2 magic
Total: 10
That's how I overtook lama Kron

Good reading! I think its worthwhile to rent and push for a day, but staying in Silver just off rentals would be hard with your ECR getting low.

The Pelacor Conjurer is basically the Failed Summoner for the Life Splinter, while not exactly the same, its an amazing card for 2 mana and great against Magic Decks.

Thanks a lot for the compliment! You're right, I'm only renting for 1 day then let my ECR recover. However I don't know if it's sustainable to stay in silver by renting especially at the End of Season.

The Pelacor Conjurer is basically the Failed Summoner

That's true but pelacor is a bit better because of flying ability (high dodge chance)

It would have to be a case of play 1 day, stop for 2-3 days, then play 1 day.....rinse and repeat. Lots of discipline and time needed to re-rent all the cards again.
End of Season......the math doesn't work for me, but who doesn't like more surprises. And in the end, as you said, the aim is still to have fun :D

You got it all right! it's more profitable and less time consuming than renting for many days and playing till 75% ECR.

At end of season, I just rent my cards before 3-4 hours from the deadline.
