Share Your Battle: Your ticket out of Bronze

Good evening dear Splinterlands and Hive community!

The theme for the current weekly Share Your Battle Challenge is DJINN INFERNI. Sadly I don't have an interesting battle to share with it but I've came up with a really amazing monster to put the spotlights on!

Intro

If you are a new player on splinterlands, I'm sure you are struggling a lot since you are 99% of the time starting from Bronze League. Unfortunately, the lowest league is infested with bots that are tricky to beat with the starter deck and will lead to many losses. Moreover, the rewards on Bronze are too low to make it worth playing in that league.
I've recently started playing in the Silver League and gosh it's way more fun! (will come back to that on the next post)
That's why you need to get the hell out of bronze ASAP and this Monster will be your ticket: Sea Monster

Sea Monster

It is a 8 mana Reward Card from the Beta collection (so it can only be used in the Wild Format) and that much mana is worth it as I'll explain below. However, you need to have a Level 3 Sea Monster and not the level 1

Sea MonsterLevel 1Level 3
Card12
Melee Attack44
Speed1 (Leads to lots of misses)2 (okayish speed)
Health89
Heal+2 HP per turn+3 HP per turn
Rental0.10 DEC/day0.107 DEC/day

That additional health at Level 3 makes a huge difference and makes Sea Monster a sustain god in most matchup especially followed by a Tank healer like Merdalii to recover up to 6 Health per turn.

Besides, you need a level 2 Kelyaa as a summoner (the rent is a little expensive) granting +1 Speed (now we have a 3 Speed Monster) and +1 Armor (More Tankiness!)

So we have a Monster with:

  • 4 Melee Damage
  • 10 Hit Ponts (9 Health + 1 Armor)
  • 3 Speed (Speedy and can dodge)
  • Heals for 3 Health per turn

Other option for summoners are: Bortus or Daria Dragonscale

Battle 1 : 24 Mana + Unprotected

In this battle, I'm facing against an oppressive team composition:

  • Bortus + Oshannus nullifying any potential of magic damage
  • Axemaster dealing tons on damage (4 damage/turn)
  • Merdaali to keep Oshannus alive

While I've put up Sea Monster and Merdaali for the double Heal and DeepLurker + Uraeus for backline hunting.

The unprotected ruleset came to my team advantage as my Melee attackers won't be blocked by Armor
At some time it came down to this:

However, as mentionned earlier, the insane sustain from the double heal was the key to my victory despite multiple misses from my monsters!

Battle 2 : 16 Mana + Melee Mayhem

I've always had problems dealing with low mana battles as 90% of those battle are:

  • Kelyaa granting +1 Armor and +1 Speed
  • Djinn Oshannus with 6 speed dodges most of the shots
  • Merdaali healing Oshannus and taking it down will become way harder
  • sneak monsters will take a lot of time to take down the backline since their attacks are blocked with Kelya Armor

I've made it feel like an invincible team but take a look at my team:

  • Daria Dragonscale granting +1 Melee damage to friendly Monsters
  • Sea Monster now has 5 Melee Damage and outsustain oshannus damage (2 Magic VS 3 Health heal)
  • Tide Biter is an excellent Reach Monster buffed with additional damage
  • Hardy Stonefish filled the 1 Mana left

Funny how Merdaali didn't make it in time to Heal Oshannus :)

Battle 3 : 18 Mana + Rise of the Common

Facing this team was unexpectedly tough, it was clearly better than the Oshannus + Merdaali combo:

  • Chaos Knight Shield makes it tanky against Melee and Ranged damage while dealing 3 damage
  • Venari Crystalsmith heals Chaos Knight and got buffed ranged damage
  • Time Mage Slow didn't bring enough utility to this battle
  • Enemy Team deals 6 damage per turn but guess what?
  • My Sea Monster + Merdalii Heals for 6 Health per turn
  • At the meantime, Pelacor Bandit dealing damage slowly but surely to the backline

NB: even if I hadn't put a sneak Monster, the battle will be my victory through Fatigue (Sea Monster got higher health)

Tldr

Did my strategy work?

Needless to say, the way I'm stomping all these bots is enough to prove how effective Sea Monster was, especially against Djinn Oshannus despite being "only" a common card
However, I can't stress enough how important is to have a Level 3 Sea Monster!

Something can be done differently?

This monster is a one man army in low mana battles while at higher mana, better options can be available! But we're talking about Bronze, 80% of battles are low mana!

Good luck Have Fun on your Splinterlands Battles!
