Positivity for the New Chaos Legions Release

Lets start with the positives! I am most excited about the influx and complete overhaul of the Life and Earth Splinters. Prior to the new release, I would often skip the daily quests for these two Splinters as their basic cards were no match against any other Splinter. The Life Splinter especially needed the overhaul as every battle with the old deck required more prayer than skill to pull off a win.

With the new Life Splinter summoner General Sloan providing a handsome plus 1 to ranged damage, matched with the Pelacor Arbalest coming in hot with a base 2 range damage WITH a double strike skill, the whole gameplay with the Life Splinter is reborn! This is just one example of the beautiful new cards available with the Chaos Legions release that allows for a whole new cast of characters to explore and flesh out a new play style with a previously overlooked and under utilized splinter.

The Earth Splinter has me doing cartwheels too! I always had high hopes for the old Earth Splinter as I tried to eek out some wins with the Nectar Queen and Stonesplitter Orc, but, it rarely worked out. However, the new and improved Earth Splinter shows up to party with a new plus 1 to magic damage Summoner and some sexy new cards to throw at your enemies. Two big cards I’ve been hooked on are the Goblin Psychic (with 2 magic damage and the Tank Heal ability) and the Venari Knifer (with Two melee damage and the Thorns ability). The fact that the Earth Splinter now has more than basic high health to carry the player through each battle is exciting to say the least. Finally the Earth Splinter has a fighting chance against the behemoths of the Fire and Death Splinters!

A final Like I have for this new release is the great spread of abilities that have been doled out to the various Splinters. Going back to the Venari Knifer with his Thorns ability; it’s great to see this ability in the basic card set (along with the Cursed Windeku in the Death Splinter) as I’ve seen it more often in the decks of higher ranked players yet I’ve never had the pleasure of using it in my own battles. This, along with great new cards with the Reach or Sneak abilities have helped to open the game to involve more than the front line tank with a couple of background Ranged or Magic damage cards.

Dislike:
My only disappointments are the removal from the basic deck of a couple of my favorite card/summoner combinations, i.e. the Haunted Spirit from the Death Splinter and the plus 1 magic damage Summoner for the Water splinter. I’m sad to see them go but I am more than happy with the new improvements made all around!

What are some of your favorite improvements from the Chaos Legion release?
