It's about time to stack stables

avatar

I'm still yet to accumulate any decent stack of stable coins. My rationale for not having done it yet is my speculation that the market cycle is going to last for 6 more months at the very least. I might be a bit greedy by wanting to time the market a little bit to catch better value when shifting back to stables.

Let's hope I'm right.

Either way, I've realized that it's a good idea to hedge for the downside to reduce some of the crazy volatility crypto comes with, and to be ready for correction when they occur, to be able to buy back at discounts. That's why I'm going to start accumulating, starting with...

HBD

It ain't much, but it's a start.

From now on, all my posting rewards I get in the from of HBD I'm going to transfer into savings to start yielding that 12% APR. If HIVE spikes again, I'm hoping I'm finally going to have some sense to sell a portion into HBD.

BUSD on Binance Smart Chain

Plan is to get back into CUB-BUSD pool. I got out of the CUB-BUSD, sold BUSD for CUB and shifted into CUB Kingdom at 50 cents to ride the hype wave when the PolyCub airdrop was announced. The greedy strategy ended up being a bad one because now CUB is at 25 cents, and the pCUB airdrop is still yet to come. Best strategy would've been to just stay put in the CUB-BUSD where the dollar pair would've worked as a hedge for the dropping price of CUB.

Now that we're here though, I guess I'm left to waiting until the hype of PolyCub starts again and lifts the price of CUB and then sell some back to BUSD. Selling other cryptos at a downturn isn't really an option. But then again I wouldn't want to miss on the airdrop either. The decision when to sell and how much becomes more complicated because the airdrop is going to last 60 days, instead of a one time snapshot.

Liquidating some Splinterland assets?

I had sold some earlier edition cards that I don't need for my own gameplay to buy Chaos Legion packs. I have seriously considered selling one or the other of my golden legendaries for my stable coin needs.

GFLs.png

At the moment the list prices for these two cards is almost $6k. They have remained their value quite well despite the downturn in crypto markets, hence I consider some cards to be an option to shift into stables.

Golden Gloridax Guardian, my lucky Untamed airdrop catch, has had a minimum list price ranging from 1 to 10k. Not sure what prices they have been actually bought though. The listings have a big variety because it's very low liquidity card with only 109 being in circulation.

Chain Golem was a promo card from backing Splinterlands' kickstarter when Untamed edition came. I got a maxed regular foil one and then this single gold foil version out of it, so selling this golden Chain Golem wouldn't affect my gameplay at all. Its minimum list price has ranged from 1.5 to 3k when I've looked at it.

The annoying thing is though, that these cards give me a lot of collection power which is needed to go up the ranks. Of course renting or buying other cards is an option. I have 575 unopened Chaos Legion packs that would give me more collection power, but I want to see all the legendary summoner airdrops being released before I open them, to have a chance to catch more of them from packs on top of the airdrop itself.

This all is besides the point though...

Conclusion

Getting some stables is good for hedging the crypto market. Especially now that they can be used to earn yield. I'm too greedy though, and too confident that the bullmarket is going to continue for a while, so I haven't done that yet. If/when markets start pushing all-time-highs again, I will start cost-averaging into stables.

Good thing with Hive is that I don't need anything to sell for stables. I can post, earn HBD and transfer that into savings. That's where I'm starting meanwhile waiting for the markets to turn green again.

With stable stacking I'm mostly going to focus on HBD and BUSD on CubFinance since these I'm most familiar with. I might look into some Thorchain options, too, since I bought some RUNE a while ago.

Wow... Splinterlands has some really high value cards, shame I have no interest in it whatsoever.

Am actually impressed with how well HBD has been doing. I have almost 1000, and the thought of that sweet 12% APR is too good to ignore.

Yeah, older edition cards have increased in value a lot after the surge of new players. Golden legendaries can have list prices in tens of thousands. It's crazy.

12% guarantee with no risk is boring but too good compared to regular banks.
