The FOMO and FUD of Chaos Legion release (+results of opening 110 packs)

I bought 100 (+10) packs on Phase 1 of the presale. I ended up spending quite a lot on vouchers, buying 50 of them, because I wanted to get an extra Doctor Blight. I opened my packs using both, legendary and alchemy potions to double the drop rate of legendaries and gold foils, because they increase the effective value of the pack enough to justify the cost of them. Check this tool by PeakMonsters for the effective values and other stats.

In total I got 10 legendaries from packs. Quix The Devious was probably my best one since summoners are usually more valuable than minions. I got 3 Zyvax Vuuls, so I already managed to level up one legendary.

I pulled 23 gold cards, two of them epics, two rares and the rest commons. Still waiting for the golden legendary :)

I got a golden summoner though, so that's nice.

Right now my plan is to skip Phase 2 altogether and wait for the general sale to add more. The only reason to buy in Phase 2 would be to increase your chances for the airdops, or to make sure you don't miss the general sale. There's some rumors that there wouldn't be a lot of left, because there are some big buyers who get their cards under the counter. I would imagine that there would be some left of the 13 million packs for the general sale, but I wouldn't be surprised they would go quickly, so I'm probably going to buy them first minute the sale starts (no kidding).

I'm aiming to get enough funds for 500 packs on general sale to get the +15% bonus tier. The bonus is less desirable this time around though, because on general sale you need vouchers for the bonus packs. This makes it so, that the value of voucher during general sale is below $4, the value of a pack.

Now, I wonder if the "under the counter" sales will affect the airdrop emissions. In the Phase 2 there will be an airdrop card released for every million packs sold. But do we go through several airdrops in Phase 2 if big buyers buy before general sale starts? Are we seeing the big buys in the counter when they occur or will we know them only after Phase 2 has ended?

Either way, it won't change my strategy, but I still wonder.

Road to 500 packs.

The goal is to collect 2 Million ingame credits ($2000), required for 500 packs, before the general sale starts. I would rather not spend any more HIVE for this, especially with the airdrops coming, but I might have to supplement. Though depending on where the price of vouchers settle, I may or may not buy according to initial plan, depends how much benefit the better bonus tier will give.

Here's where I'm planning to get the funds:

  • about 2.5 vouchers daily that are exchanged to credits as long as they sell for above $4 each
  • SPS daily airdrop
  • unstaked SPS
  • DEC card rental income exchanged to credits
  • selling some extra cards that I won't play with and don't create rental income
  • HBD from post rewards

I have an unstaking of SPS complete in 15th. It's not ideal to sell at 30 cents, but I don't really have any other alts that I'm willing to sell, since I have just recently reorganized my coins and sold some small positions from ages ago. The new cards will increase my airdrop so it gives back some.

At the moment I have $247 worth of credits, so over 12% reached. Unstaked SPS will give bit over $500 at current prices. Daily SPS gives about $15 daily, card rental income $5-10. With conservative estimate they'll add about $600 in the following 30 days if price rates would remain the same. That would put me "only" $650 short from other sources, plus whatever vouchers will cost.

What are your plans? Are you buying in now to guarantee more packs or are you waiting for general sale despite the rumors? Hopefully there's some left, because I can't wait to get my hands on some more packs :)

I am buying selected new cards on the market. I also plan on buying 100 packs in the general sale. Depending on the cards I buy before hand I might not get the 100 packs in one go. I lack the vouchers for any bonus so vouchers have to be below 4 dollars to be worth buying for the bonus 10 packs. I have been selling the daily SPS airdrop and vouchers to fund additional card buys.

I haven't bought a lot myself, but I did buy few alpha cards back in the day from the market while cards were cheap prior Splinterlands booming. My best decision might be upgrading Alric, water summoner, (alpha edition) to level 4. That ended up being a very good decision monetary-wise, since now that card is one of my most valuable one.
