Do I Need 3 Of The Same Of High Value Splinterlands Cards?

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the game and the economics within Splinterlands. I'm only a month into gameplay but I bought a few starter packs when Steemmonsters came out.

So I have mostly Alpha Cards in my smallish collection but wondering if I really need them. Especially with chaos coming. In the pic above it shows that I have 3 Arlics. I could sell for market price and be happy I supposed or rent them out but since they give you a free one to play with I'm unsure about what to do other than hold them.

My suspicion is that most of the inventory is stashed away with OG players who have tons of these cards but haven't sold them because it would flood the market and crash the prices. But there will come a point when a great flood comes unless we really need these cards to play. In my case I don't think I will ever play higher than bronze. I'm just not good at this type of thing but I'm having fun.

There will be a bunch of players who move up and play the game but I don't think that's for me. And, probably not for most people finding out the game during this run. Further, I'm wondering what will happen to these "old" cards once chaos comes out. Will they be part of game play and be in high demand or will chaos be its own thing.

My thought is that if new players come in from chaos they will try to accumulate chaos assets and not really look back at the expensive cards if they don't need to. If I were brand new and hadn't picked up starter packs a couple of years ago I don't think reaching back to pick up an Alpha Arlic would even cross my mind so I'm wondering if I just have some weird emotional attachment to my overvalued Alpha cards or if I'm lucky and should hold on to them even though I won't be leveling up and playing past bronze. (at least for a long time)

I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments. I always chose wrong so I don't expect success lol, but I want to do whats in my best interest for once.

It's hard to say exactly what to do, but some considerations are the number of players compared to number of cards in circulation, and that the spellbook beta rares might not always be there. When someone has the spellbook, they don't exactly own those cards, they just own the spellbook itself which unlocks a bunch of features/rewards and contains a playset of level 1 cards, but that doesn't mean it would always contain beta cards (and yours are even alpha, which has a bonus) so from that perspective I think the value of these cards could be even higher in the long run, but during chaos legion launch I do expect some people to sell some cards to trade for packs, so really it can go either way.

Personally I enjoy rentals as a way to hedge agaist any loss of value while also HODLing my cards for long term rise in value. I think almost every card I have ever sold, I later thought that "maybe I should have not sold it" except when using those funds to buy something else

that's good advice. I will hold onto them and rent them out. I hate the what if I held them scenario. I always choose wrong so better to hold lol.

I imagine though that the whales could flood the market at any time if they choose to. Hopefully they understand that they need to keep the market propped up and just sell a few here and there.

You have to hold on to those. Alric is not just old. He's collectible. There's a reason I spent $500 on each of two gold alpha Alrics a few weeks back and its the same reason that now you can't buy one for less than $6k today. The only cards right now that aren't losing value are Alphas. That's it. The rest are dropping between profit taking and people gathering funds for the Chaos Drop but they aren't selling alphas.

If a whale dump happens on Alpha summoners, it's time to sell everything because the game is over. There's only 3,179 of those and that number only gets smaller. And while there are some Alpha packs out there still, you can't buy one for less than $560. Beta's by comparison are about $150.

Also, remember that the devs made sure early on when they released the beta packs to keep alphas special by giving you a dec bonus for using them. You won't get that with Chaos packs.

Finally, when I first started playing I used the spellbook Alric and built a team around him but then I went and bought a lvl 1 alpha alric just because I felt like if I was going to use him, I might as well get a dec bonus for it. Then, even though I stayed in bronze, I realized if I wanted to use level 2 and 3 cards, I needed to upgrade him. Can't do that with the spellbook. So I bought more. And we were in Untamed then.

Hold those guys and rent them out.

thanks for the advice. I'm glad to know that I got a few gems. I'll rent them out. I think I'll always play in bronze so I'll play with the spellbook deck and rent my good alphas that can bring some dec rental income. I don't really get a big alpha bonus for using them in battle because I suck.

Haha yeah I stay in Bronze too. I'm not bad at these games but I've never been great. I certainly rent out my best cards too.

@imno, sorry! You need more $PIZZA to use this command.

The minimum requirement is 20.0 PIZZA liquid, and 0.0 PIZZA staked.

More $PIZZA is available from Hive-Engine or Tribaldex

I would keep one of them (your highest level one) then rent out the other two to generate returns. After all, your highest level card is the only one going to be picked from your deck.

well, all my cards are level one. I never combined any. I kind of think I should rent all my Arlics and play with the free one they give you in the game. I don't win much anyway lol.
