Biting The Bullet: Playing Splinterlands For The Very First Time

Is peer pressure a good thing? Most of the time it is not. But I think there were also times that peer pressure could be advantageous to us.
For example, after a very long time of hesitation, I finally give in to peer pressure and play Splinterlands.
Actually, I've known Splinterlands since way back in Steemit. Back then it was still called SteemMonsters.
But since I'm a very skeptical person, I missed a great opportunity when I ignored the game for years. Yeah... I'm one of those people that could have been one of the pioneers of the game. It's quite regrettable really but what's done is done and one could only move on.
So anyways, early this morning, I finally bit the bullet and played the game. I bought the Summoner's Spellbook so that I could have access to the Daily Quest, Ranked Battle, tournament, and many other things.
I also bought 5 Hive worth of DEC so that I could get some SPS from the on-going airdrop. I plan to buy more once I powered down some Hive.
One of the thing that I did after unlocking the locked features was to learn how to play the game by doing the tutorial. The tutorial was a bit of a disappointment though because it was so buggy.
Despite my complain though, I still managed to complete the tutorial. After that I checked the cards that I could use for the ranked battled.
The only card that I could say to be my own was the rare card: Serpentine Soldier which I received in a giveaway way back in Steemit. Unfortunately, I have the memory of a goldfish so I have forgotten the name of steemian who gave me the card. Forgive me fellow steemian whose username I've forgotten!

Anyways, the Serpentine Soldier seemed like a very useful card. It's a shame that I only have one copy of the card so it could only remain at 1 star. At least till I get a few more copies.
But it's better than nothing right?
Fortunately, I could increase the number of cards that I could use by renting them. But that's only something to be considered, a.k.a, after I thoroughly familiarize myself with the mechanics of the game.
For the time being I'll just happily use the base cards that I could use and stay in the Bronze III League. Yeah, I'm aware that I have no ambition...
So after completing the (buggy) tutorial and checking the cards that I could use, I went and completed my very first daily quest.

The daily quest was originally the "Life Quest" but I decided to use my only quest refresh to get another quest. It was for that reason that I ended up with the "Sneak Quest".
Why did I refresh the quest? No reason really, I simply want to see what the button would do so clicked on it.
Changing the quest was actually a good decision on my part. If did the "Life Quest" I would be limited to only using Life Splinter cards and neutral cards.
But since I've gotten the "Sneak Quest" my option grew as I could use all the Splinters and cards available to me -- making it easier to complete the daily quest.
Thanks to it I managed to complete the daily quest in just seven battle. The result of the battle was as follows: 6 win, 1 loss.
Yeah, I was very luck with the match-ups and my choice of Splinters (Death and Water). I am of course, aware that I won't always be as lucky so I stopped while I was ahead.
Now let's see what my quest reward was...

I didn't use a Quest Potion because it was so expensive. Moreover, as I'm only in the Bronze League so my reward could only be so so.
Still, I think my luck today is not bad as I've gotten a new card. Moreover it seemed to be a very useful card despite being just a common card. And since there's no available card packs for sale in the Shop right now, any card is welcome addition to my collection.

Here's a screenshot of the common card I've received as a reward; the life monster card, Chain Spinner.
Like I said it's not a bad monster card. It has decent stats. Even though it has low health/heart (3), it has nice armor (3) and an effect that forces magic-based monsters to attack its armor first. It has 5 mana though so I must think carefully before using it in low mana match-ups.
Well, that's all for now. Thank you for reading.
