Splinterlands Diary: Renting Prices Are Crazy, Should I start Buying Cards?

BUY OR RENT.png

There's still more than 6 days and 21 hours left before the end of the current season and yet, the card renting market had already gone crazy with prices of cards being rented going through the roof. Moreover, rent cancellations are becoming more common as the end of the season draws near.

For example; I have to drop down from Silver III to Bronze I because the gold foiled Dragon Spirit that I rented was cancelled by the person who rented it to me (sorry I forgot your name).

I can't really fault the lessor for cancelling the rent since he or she was renting the card for less than 30 DEC a day. And considering that the gold foiled Dragon Spirit was currently being rented for 64 DEC a day, I would have done the same.

That being said I'm still a little annoyed with the fact that the prices of cards had gone up considerably to justify renting cards so just I could return to Silver III.

Which begs the question; should I start using my accumulated DEC to buy cards? And if I ever decided to buy cards to get at least 15,000 CP; how much would it cost me?

Currently, I have 34,500+ DEC in my wallet which should be equal to $386 at the current market price. I obviously don't plan to spend all of my DEC to buy cards (yet) since I still want that SPS airdrop points but $150 - $200 should be doable.

For old players, do help out a newbie here and give your expert opinion.

That's all. Thanks for reading.

Cheers!

P.S: I don't plan to start buying cards this season since everything is overpriced.

I started buying cards because of the crazy high rental prices they can collect. With the new requirement that power be held for 24 hours in order to qualify for a higher rank's reward chests it has only caused rentals to be in more demand. The monthly ROI on the cards I've purchased and been renting out is 12% and climbing (based on current market purchase prices). Check out the market and look for deals on cards that have consistently high rental prices compared to their purchase price. Peakmonsters.com is a great place to do that analysis. Also, be sure to buy your cards through monstermarket.io so you get 3% of your purchase price back in DEC. !PIZZA

Hi, thanks for dropping buy and giving your opinion. That said can you recommend the level of summoners and monster cards I needed to buy to be competitive in the Silver League?

I have been successful in reaching Silver with a Mylor Crowling summoner. I'm a renter of cards for my day to day battling and brawls and that summoner has the best balance of price and strategic value. Magic monsters are also very effective when paired with the ALRIC STORMBRINGER sunmmoner that is already included in your deck. Mylor Crowling sells for about $50 but can be rented for about 0.15 per day.

I try to buy the card as soon as I have enough DEC and rent some cards to play.
Now, my CP accumulate to 24k.
There are 2 benefits to buy the card:

  • You have more SPS airdrop point --> earn more SPS
  • You can rent out to get back DEC

I prefer to buy gold cards as they have high CP and can be rented out with higher price :)
