All Animals Are Equal, Some More Equal Than Others

In this week’s Battle Mage Secrets, we look at the Equalizer ruleset and see what strategy works when all units start with the health of the unit with the highest health on either team.

Any buffs and debuffs to health from summoners or unit abilities are done afterwards.

For this battle, i've gone with Alric Stormbringer as my summoner because I want to get the +1 magic attack boost which can be very useful if my opponent has any defense against magic attacks.

Equalizer battles can be tricky because using units with too high health can give your opponent a big boost. But at the same time, using weak units will put you at a disadvantage because even when they get their health boosted, they won't do much damage. So a balance is needed.

The other thing to take note is that it is always best to have as many units on the battlefield as possible because your opponent has to grind down all that extra "equalized" health.

1st position - Torhilo The Frozen - A tank and also able to absorb magic damage if my opponent goes heavy with it.
2nd position - Furious Chicken - I get at least 8 health for 0 mana. Always do so if you have the space.
3rd position - Ice Pixie - Only 2 mana but you get decent attack after the +1 magic boost and also 8 health and decent speed.
4th position - Venari Wavesmith - Apart from equalized health, I also wanted to maximize my shield for the battle.
5th position - Medusa - I wanted it for its Stun ability that might help to take out an opponent's heavy hitter for a round at least.
6th position - Scavo Technomancer - Explosive ability to hopefully take out two opponents at one.

Looking at my opponent's lineup, I thought I was in for some trouble. First, he had a legendary summoner that gave all his units void armor. That weakened my magic attacks quite a bit.

Adelade Brightwing was another card that I hat playing against. Because the armor repair and magic damage can really take a toll.

One thing that really played to my favor was using Torhilo as my tank. Its void ability was able to negate the 1 magic attack from two of my opponent's units. Also, the four melee attack was quite powerful. By round 3, I could feel the tide turning in my favor.

As you can see, the battle was about to end with all my units still standing on the battlefield. It just goes to show the power of combining Equalize with an ability that can absorb damage like Void or Shield.

That's all for this Equalizer edition of Battlemage Secrets. See you in the next one.

I think you won this game because of the Ruleset and the void magic of that card at the front. It served as a tank as well for you to actually let your other cards to deliver the damage that was actually needed. Great win.

Void is such a nice ability. Wish there were more cards that have it.
