Even Stevens Splits The Army In Half

In this week’s Battle Mage Secrets, we look at the Even Stevens ruleset and see what strategy works when only units with even mana costs can be used in battle. Thankfully, this doesn't apply to summoners, so you can still use odd mana summoners.

For this battle, I've gone with Tyrus Paladium as my summoner because I wanted an extra shield boost. With Even Stevens, its important to consider what units are available to be selected. The good thing is that many of the better cards tend to be even mana cost in my opinion.

Although there are some exceptions, like Captain Katie, Marisol Contuma etc. so you can avoid some summoners altogether like Ruffmane when it comes to an even mana battle.

1st position - Kralus - A tank with dual attack and flying to evade enemy melee and range attacks.
2nd position - Aves Sturgis - Weapons training is useful but with no Splinter units with no attack, I won't be using it for that ability. Just its two magic attack
3rd position - Light Elemental - Cheap and decent attack and speed.
4th position - Time Mage - A good unit that slows the opponent down to get my attacks in first.
5th position - High Priest Darius - Resurrect and also 3 magic attack is quite a deadly combo to beat.
6th position - Bila The Radiant - Life leech to hopefully build up lots of health at the back.

When I saw my opponent's lineup, I had a good feeling but wasn't so sure because of the legendary summoner. It makes my magic attacks become like melee and range attacks, needing to wear down the opponent's shield first. But on the flip side, he didn't use very powerful units, so it could go either way.

By the start of the third round, we can see the effect of not playing strong units in a high mana battle. While the legendary summoner was making things a little more difficult for me, there are so many powerful even mana units, you have got to use them in a high mana even stevens battle.

Eventually, I won the battle without even a unit of mine dying. You can catch a replay of the entire battle here: https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_95dbb5664e692543dc75058cdbe592e6&ref=charcoalbuffet

So, looking at the Even Stevens ruleset, there are many powerful units to pick from that can do 2 or even 3 damage. Next, picking units with high health is also important as low health units are of no use once they're dead.

That's all for this Even Stevens edition of Battlemage Secrets. See you in the next one.

Won without losing a single unit. Great stuff. That void magic from the opponent summoner is difficult to play against. Reducing that shield did a great complement, but you would have still won.
Great win.

The legendary summoners can be really hard to play against with all the extra abilities thrown in. Feels like more and more are getting used these days. Thanks for the curate!

Yeah you're right, I think more people are just throwing in more money into the game, they're really getting harder to beat.

Thanks for the curate!

You're welcome
