Snatching A Victory From The Jaws Of Defeat

In this week’s Battle Mage Secrets, we look at the Up Close And Personal ruleset and see what strategy works when only units with melee attacks can be used in battle. Units with more than one kind of attack can be used if they have melee attacks. Thorns and Demoralize are useful abilities in this ruleset as is the Shield ability.

For this battle, my summoner is Zintar Mortalis as he can reduce the melee attack of all my opponent's units by 1.

1st position - Cursed Windeku - Thorns damage will be very useful since all melee hits by opponent will return 2 damage in return
2nd position - Furious Chicken - I want some buffer in between in case my opponent decides to use sneak attacks
3rd position - Silent Sha-Vi - Sneak ability will be useful against my opponent's backline
4th position - Undead Badger - A cheap sneak melee attacker. Also with Resurrect in play, it adds more buffer at the back
5th position - Creeping Ooze - Slows the opponent down and also pads the backline against sneak attacks
6th position - Harklaw - Harklaw's shield should hopefully help it last longer in battle and also protect my units from sneak attacks especially in combination with Zintar's -1 to melee attacks

This match looked like a disaster at the start and I think that's partly because Harklaw was just absorbing damage and not doing any. In hindsight, maybe I should have switched Cursed Windeku to the back and moved Harklaw up front. So in round 9, it was 1 vs 2 and I just might be able to snatch a victory if I don't miss an attack against my faster opponent.

Unfortunately, I missed an attack and that's when I thought that I blew it. But with the Resurrect ruleset in effect as well, Harklaw came back to life with a very useful 3 shield as well. And this is what powered me to a victory from a seemingly losing position.
