There's A Lot Of Opportunity, If You Know Where To Take Them

In this week’s Battle Mage Secrets, we look at the Equal Opportunity ruleset and see what strategy works when all units gain the ability to attack the lowest health unit on the enemy team.

For this battle, I've gone with Mylor Crowling as my summoner because from what I've noticed, many opponents tend to use melee attacks with the Opportunity ruleset. So Thorns would be a natural defense.

My general strategy was to use units with as much health as possible because I expected it to be a war of attrition and health helps you stay in the battle longer. Especially with the Thorns ability.

1st position - Goblin Mech - A tank with decent shield and health. Also able to do a pretty respectable 4 melee damage.
2nd position - Kron the Undying - 10 health is pretty decent and also 3 magic attack which is quite powerful.
3rd position - Prismatic Energy - 10 health and quick attack to get past enemy defenses.
4th position - Failed Summoner - No attack but decent 4 health for only 2 mana.
5th position - Regal Peryton - Fast and also with decent health. Only downside is the week 1 magic attack.
6th position - Hill Giant - Good health but slow and pretty weak melee attack.

Now, looking at my opponent's summoner and lineup, I knew it was going to be a good battle. That's because he went all melee attack which means taking two damage every hit he lands. To make matters worse, he didn't buff up his shield.

If you were to look at the battlefield at the end of the first round, you might think that I was about to lose the battle. My opponent certainly had more units on the battlefield left. What was in my favor, though, was having my 3 top health units left. They were also the ones doing the most damage.

And by round 4, the tables had clearly turned. So, the strategy of having a few high health cards that can do serious damage remains my go-to strategy for Equal Opportunity battles.

Eventually, the battle was won. You can catch a replay of the entire battle here: https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_9d4bbca513666036aed7af31d3fe28d7&ref=charcoalbuffet

That's all for this Equal Opportunity edition of Battlemage Secrets. See you in the next one.

Your opponent didn't stand any chance, he could have easily turned up with magic cards since it's an opportunity Ruleset. But even if they did, you had it covered. With Mylor Crowling I think it was already over before it begun. They gave it a fight though. Good win

Yeah, Mylor's an absolute monster when it comes to melee battles.
