I admit it, every time I bought a board game or video game the first thing I did before playing was to read the instructions. I wanted to be a "scholar" to get a good head start, or at least I thought I did, but it never really happened XD.

I still do and I went straight to the FAQ to find out what I had in front of me. I read through each section several times to get an understanding of how it goes. And I started taking notes (because my memory is terrible) to be clear about every detail.

The whole system was very new to me. They often used the comparison with games like Yu-Gi-Oh, but I never played it. (But I did watch the anime).

I thought it was fun and decided to start learning how to play...

Abrumado por los detalles

Sentía que mi cabeza iba a explotar, en serio. Había tantas cosas, características, elementos, atributos, etc. Que de inmediato me di cuenta que gran parte de la diversión en este juego estaba precisamente en la estrategia.

Poner a prueba nuestra mente y nuestra capacidad de recolectar información, para luego usarla de una manera eficiente para alcanzar la victoria es realmente estimulante. Pocos juego de esta clase provocan tanto entusiasmo en mí, ya que soy muy inseguro a veces, y lo primero que pienso es que todos son más inteligentes y capaces por lo que lo único que podría esperar serían solo derrotas. Aun así, este fue el caso y estaba superansioso por jugar.

Overwhelmed by the details.

I felt like my head was going to explode, seriously. There were so many things, features, elements, attributes, etc. That I immediately realized that a big part of the fun in this game was precisely in the strategy.

Testing our mind and our ability to gather information, and then use it efficiently to achieve victory is stimulating. Few games of this kind provoke so much enthusiasm in me, as I am very insecure at times, and the first thing I think is that everyone is smarter and more capable so the only thing I could expect would be only defeats. Still, this was the case and I was super anxious to play.

Acepta que tienes un problema

Después de un par de batallas caí en cuenta que había pasado varias horas sentado frente a la pantalla de la PC. Y que ese "par" de batallas en realidad fueron... Bueno, muchas...

Me había saltado hasta el almuerzo y se me habían amontonado los quehaceres del día. Me estaba volviendo un obseso de este juego jaja

Aunque tal emoción sea común para algunos y solo esté exagerando.

Pero la emoción fue tal que dejé pensarlo e hice la inversión para comprar mi libro de hechizos. De modo que ya era un jugador en toda regla.

Accept that you have a problem

After a couple of battles, I realized that I had spent several hours sitting in front of the PC screen. And that those "couple" of battles were actually... Well, a lot...

I had skipped even lunch and my chores for the day had piled up. I was becoming obsessed with this game haha.

Although such excitement is common for some and I'm just overreacting.

But the excitement was such that I stopped thinking about it and made the investment to buy my spellbook. So I was now a fully-fledged gamer.

Explorando

Me sentía como si llegara a una gran ciudad por primera vez. Todo me resultaba fascinante. Empecé a leer sobre cada una de las cartas, cuánto costaban, sobre las más y menos raras, compararlas, crear estrategias, revisar batallas en las que había perdido para mejorar estrategias...

La verdad es que hasta las derrotas me parecían disfrutables (aunque al principio me llenaban de frustración). Tratar de entender a los jugadores más experimentados que yo también era un trabajo de investigación y análisis muy divertido. (Sí, use investigación, trabajo y divertido en la misma oración)

La mayor parte me sentí perdido, pero cada cosa nueva se iba agregando a mis apuntes. Haciéndome cada vez más contento con esta nueva aventura.

Exploring.

I felt like I was arriving in a big city for the first time. Everything was fascinating to me. I started reading about each of the cards, how much they cost, about the most and least rare ones, comparing them, creating strategies, reviewing battles in which I had lost to improve my strategies...

The truth is that even the defeats seemed enjoyable to me (although at the beginning they filled me with frustration). Trying to understand players more experienced than me was also a fun research and analysis job. (Yes, use research, job, and fun in the same sentence).

For the most part, I felt lost, but each new thing was adding to my notes. Making me happier and happier with this new adventure.

Peleando para levantar vuelo

Me gané un par de batallas y logré entrar en la liga. Además, he completado dos misiones. La cosa es un poco complicada porque justo en el momento en que me siento seguro, llega un jugador y barre el piso con mis guerreros jaja (o los guerreros que me prestaron).

Planeo como primera meta obtener mis primeras cartas próximamente y para eso he estado leyendo a un para de jugadores para poder tomar una buena decisión. Al ser novato, lo mejor que puedo hacer es aprender de los mejores.

Fighting to take flight.

I won a couple of battles and made it into the league. In addition, I have completed two missions. Things are a bit complicated because just when I feel confident, a player comes along and sweeps the floor with my warriors haha (or the warriors I borrowed).

I plan as a first goal to get my first cards soon and for that, I've been reading a lot of players to make a good decision. Being a newbie, the best I can do is learn from the best.

¡Participé en mi primer torneo!

¿Y a que no saben lo que pasó? Pues... Perdí jajaja

Sí, fue frustrante. Pero disfruté la experiencia. Después de todo, ya me había ganado mis primeros DEC y decidí usarlos para participar.

Por lo pronto, quiero seguir aprendiendo y seguramente compartiré con ustedes mis avances en este interesante juego.

And you don't know what happened? Well... I lost hahaha

Yes, it was frustrating. But I enjoyed the experience. After all, I had already earned my first DECs and decided to use them to participate.

For now, I want to keep learning and I will surely share with you my progress in this interesting game.
