Should it be possible to let Battle Mages in Splinterlands “downgrade” their League?

The Splinterlands Reward system has been drastically changed since the last update. Rewards are higher for those with enough SPS for the League they’re in, but lower for everyone else. Many players who were used to playing higher Leagues and had paid thousands of dollars to upgrade their card collection up to that level, have now found out the hard way that without the staked SPS to back up that collection, they cannot play and earn anymore in their card’s League. The Rewards are nerfed and players are punished thrice: once by earning less SPS each win, once by earning less RP daily and thus less daily chests and of course once by earning less EOS chests.

(I’m not going to go into all the reasons that these players do not have the SPS staked, for myself personally as a recent player (I joined april 2022) there was no possibility of getting enough SPS as rewards to do so, and the SPS I had I used to buy Splinterlands assets like the Riftwatchers set. Yes, I’m aware of the fact that it’s possible to buy SPS externally to compensate, and that is exactly what I did, but not everyone who bought a high level card deck has the means to do so.)

So how can we solve the dilemma of layers who wish to play but are frustrated by not earning anymore, and even more so when they hear that lower League players are earning more than they are? Couldn’t we let people choose their own League?
Now that CP is gone, wouldn’t it be fine if there were a simple toggle one could use to reset your league downwards? Of course that should come with a built in clause that doing so should make you illegible for LB rewards that season, so that you couldn’t exploit your downwards move, but isn’t that something that could be programmed quite easily?

So I think the introduction of the SPS restrictions is primarily a good step against the big bot farms. They earn much less than before and I think that's good for the game economy.

As of now, many earn less (me too) and it is also indisputable that currently the rental of cards has been destroyed. The cards themselves are no longer worth as much.

Nevertheless, I think a lot of things will settle.

  1. by the conclusion of the league one is downvalued again. And then we just do not rise again next season.
  2. Renting SPS (for a short time) is not really expensive. 0.007 DEC per SPS makes 5.000 SPS just 245 DEC for 7 days. With the current exchange rate you get 25 DEC for 1 SPS, so you would need 10 SPS.
And 10 SPS for 7 days in costs is not much. One earns then nevertheless quite well by the higher league.
  3. Nothing is eaten as hot as it is cooked.
I am convinced that the goal is not to destroy the game economy, but to strengthen it. And that's exactly what the guys on the team have in mind. Once the initial anger has passed and the first experiences have been made, we'll see whether the active players earn significantly less, or whether the bots are no longer profitable. And I'm sure that will be checked and if it doesn't work, then there will be changes.

It's definitely annoying for everyone who has invested a lot and now has to invest even more, but we should give the whole system a chance.

I agree that the SPS restrictions are a necessary step to strengthen the future of Splinterlands. It is however a shame that those of us who invested directly in the game itself by buying cards to play instead of investing in the Defi now find themselves at a disadvantage to the latter, and that this not only isn't seen or understood by those who have had more time to accumulate SPS but being dismissed as being our own fault.

Leaving that discussion aside, as well as the discussion regarding the price of renting SPS (that’s yet another discussion: if there are no rental profits anymore nowadays, where can the Dec be gained to pay for the SPS renting except for by burning SPS 🤔), it still galls that there isn't a way to change/downgrade League so that one can earn once again.
