The Human Capacity for Good in a Broken World
Human nature is fundamentally good but wounded by evil. Human beings by nature possess inherent dignity, rationality, freedom and the capacity to love and form relationships. If we want to get the theological , human nature was wounded but not destroyed by original sin, which can reinterpreted as evil. It affects all human beings from birth both through nature(by elements of evolutionary selfishness) and nurture(those that surround us as we grow). This results in a tendency towards evil, a darkened intellect and a weakened will. Human nature is not totally depraved or inherently evil as it retains the capacity for good, for reason and for relationships earthly or with God. It is through grace we heal and elevate human nature and redeem it, grace that strengthens the human person to live virtuosly so in my opinion it is only through following a Just, Fair and Loving God that we can receive grace and strengthen our will to commit to the greater good even if it is outside our convience and comfort zones. Obviously we can't overhaul our whole lifestyle which, the higher up you go in terms of class is more and more based on the exploitation of classes below, but we can start small and make progress towards making our lives different and more in line with what is inherently good.
