SPS Governance Proposal - Tournament Formats Option C

DAO Sponsored Preproposal #1c

Please Note:

It seems that not everyone is aware of how the preproposal process works. In effort to avoid any confusion, please make sure to review this proposal for any changes before voting for it in the final voting round. This is to ensure that you still support the proposal after any changes that have been made during the preproposal process while working to build consensus.

UPDATE

Upon gathering community feedback we've decided to alter option C to blend in part of option E and to propose a rewards split as well. We feel this has the most support from the community and also ensures there's a mechanism for retaining value for older sets with the two random sets format. The Percent featured on the table is what percent of rewards would go to each format if this proposal passes:

image.png

If this option has the most support to move to a full proposal and is then ratified by the DAO, then the choices for the 2 random sets format will be drawn on the DAOn Hall by @fatjimmy and will change every tournament rotation. The drawing will be done for multiple rotations in advance to allow for monthly tournament creation.

Welcome everyone, we're going to be trying something slightly different for the Tournament rework proposals. As we don't have a multiple choice proposal system, we'll be running multiple linked preproposals. The preproposal with the highest stake weighted support after the 7 day preproposal period will advance to a full vote and have a chance to be ratified by the SPS DAO.

The purpose of this proposal is to outline what Tournament formats the DAO would like to Sponsor going forward. After extensive discussions and polling in the Community Discord server, 5 options for potential tournament formats have been chosen to present to the SPS DAO.

If this proposal passes, the tournament formats going forward will be:

  • Wild
  • Modern
  • Rebellion Only

This set of proposals is one piece of a comprehensive Tournament reform. There will be future proposals that address Rewards percentage by format, regular foil and gold foil split, and potentially other issues that could be discovered throughout this process. Those will each be presented in a similar fashion for DAO approval.

This is the kind of K.I.S.S. option I like.

Of course most who continue to 'enjoy' the more specialized (achoo--alpha) tournaments won't like this.

If they would keep what they told when releasing Untamed all would be fine:

https://steemit.com/splinterlands/@steemmonsters/splinterlands-untamed-info-and-release-date

Unfornately Splinterlands has left this goal behind startung with submitting the legandary Untamed Summoner so that now nobody needs Alpha/Beta-Cards or only very few cards you can use in rare cases.
If you now take also away tournaments for Alpha (& BETA)- Cards means that you devalue the old cards completely.

The problem is (and this you see when you look how the general-sale run) that in this way you have very big problems to sell new sets as investors will always think that what happened with Alpha & BETA-Cards will in some yeare happen with Rebellion-cards latest at the point they will move out to wild (but clearly the price-drop will start much earlier), so what investor want buy expensive cards who he can sell only for a cheap price in some years.
Like at the stoke exchange - Nobody will buy a share for 100$ when he expect that in 3 years this share will have a worth from 10$.

Untamed? You're really reaching back there. Wild literally uses the 'widest array of cards' possible. Edition-specific tournaments are the exact opposite of that. Your highlighted text doesn't make your argument at all. The game has to grow, pointing back to the release notes for the first edition post-beta is pretty myopic. It also doesn't account for recent card sinks such as land.

I disagree, I think that my argument does make a lot of sense.

I just can repeat what I wrote in this comment (and you maybe don't read):

"Unfornately Splinterlands has left this goal behind startung with submitting the legandary Untamed Summoner"

Everything would be fine if the old cards were still competitive. But when you look at the fact that we now have 16 mana cards and Alphs cards have a maximum of 7 mana, how are you going to achieve anything with alpha cards? When alpha cards have been copied and upgraded, such as the Pelacor Bandit, the 1:1 of the Saber Shark is only with additional flying, or cards have simply become much better for 1 mana, such as Malric Inferno, which has been rendered worthless by Tarsa, which provides the same buff as Malric for 1 mana and an additional +1 Life (which is always useful)

Yep, fully agree. The inflation is worse than fiat currency here. They are addicted to fast money, and do not care for the value of assets purchased earlier.

Consider to have a think before you vote that option, it is not a vote for the game to survive at all - it is just to benefit some certain people that do not like folks that own cards they were not able to get

Think it would be cool to add something like two random set tourneys to this each month also (idea from proposal E)

The two sides worked together to form a compromise. Option C has been updated to blend the two.

I suggested we change option E or make a blended option like that. It's too late to change Option C when it is leading imo. If we can't get a format proposal passed we'll likely see that as a next option. Agreed I think it would be better. We updated option E to further clarify what Jimmy wanted so you may want to check it out!

We get a percentage of every pack sale from rebellion, Why would we not want to make the payout a bigger share of the pool to promote the selling of those packs? Can anyone respond to this?

This actually gives Rebellion way more support than it has now. 10% exclusive, 40% modern (just Rebellion and CL) plus you can use them in wild and the random formats. It's a strong increase in Rebellion tournament earning potential.

I don't know what is your real purpose but I am sure splinterlands is going down with all your (company) experiments. As an early adopter of the game, I love this game and wish to make it more successful. But, what is the purpose of all these things if the price of my cards has reduced to just $1600 which was once over 25k. You have made it highly unprofitable for the players. YOu are providing such rewards which are highly useless. You introduced soulbound reward cards which are not tradable but have more abilities than the older cards. So, older cards are losing their values and newer cards are useless from the point of view of the trading. This is ridiculous.
