Switching to Passive Splinterlands

Hi fellow Lions,

Today I wanted to appreciate being able to take a break on something.

Switching to Passive Splinterlands

One of the things about investing and the cryptocurrency space is that it can get quite addicting but also frustrating! Lol.

I've been playing Splinterlands for a few years now and have really enjoyed my time playing it. It's a pretty fun game and it's got a good tokenomics and all that but one of the things that's gotten increasingly difficult for me these past few months, is getting enjoyment out of the game. Most of the times I play the game now, I'm getting incredibly frustrated and don't like when that happens because that's not good for health or mindset overall!

Taking a break from Splinterlands again. I don't feel the same playing it right now, it's lost it's fun and it's gotten incredibly frustrating. That's not healthy!

I've taken a break before on the game but the big change now versus when I took a break in the past is that the rental market is on fire! Rentals are an incredible source of in-game income and it's one of the really good things about the game right now. This equates to all kinds of benefits for a lot of people but especially those who have invested a pretty good amount of money, relatively speaking of course.

I used to know that I invested about 600$ in the game, mostly from Hive I've earned and brought over, but more recently I've invested a pretty good amount more into it. I think I'm around 7 or 8,000 dollars invested in the game I would think. All of that money is worth it because these market conditions are not going to stay forever. The markets will turn back around and even though the funds I've invested into Splinterlands have been considerable, the upside on the other end is a lot more so I don't mind. I know that if I sell the assets I've accumulated in the game I could make quite a bit of Hive but I'm not into that type of flip now or in the near future.

Instead I am enjoying that I can take a step back and keep an eye on the market prices of my rentals and swap it around throughout the week to ensure that I'm getting a decent return. That makes it worth the stress sometimes! Lol

What I think I'll do is wait until after the new year some time before I start playing again. I enjoy the game but the amount of frustration I get while playing it is not healthy for me at this point. It's really never healthy but sometimes you can't do anything about that lol.

Being able to invest in something that can be both an active earner and a passive earner is quite interesting, really! I played Splinterlands for the better part of 2 years non-stop but the past 6 months I've wound down my activity on the game. I don't think it has anything to do with the structural changes of the environment on the team of Splinterlands but I am finding it very difficult to compete in battles lately even though I've got a pretty well-powered deck. Obviously it's not powerful enough in some regards but it's done pretty well I'd say.

Flipping from Active to Passive is definitely something you could only do in the world of cryptocurrency! I think that's such an interesting factor and one that I didn't think would be something I could have imagined in the beginning. There are lots of wonders of the crypto realm, as well as things that certainly should give somebody pause. Like anything though, there is going to be both good as well as bad! We just have to find the balance that works best for us. For me right now, that's going passive on my Splinterlands assets and letting them do their magic on their own while I take a mental break for a while. I don't think I will give the game up completely, as I feel like I'd be missing out on a lot but I am hoping that the break allows me to accumulate the funds to come back into the game with a chance to grab some of the cards I need!

@cmplxty man I know the feeling, I've kind of lost the fire to play everyday of late too...I don't know if it's all the new cards and rulesets or what, but feeling burned out.

I still believe in the team and game (and our guild, of course!), but I kind of miss the simpler days of splinterlands. I still continue to HODL, of course

Yeah for sure man it’s lost a bit of its luster for me. I feel quite a bit better and more normal now that I’m not playing but I’m going to wait a few more weeks and see how it goes. If I don’t get the urge to play again I don’t know if I will honestly. Stacking the DEC for the things I want to buy after the prices drop a bit seems like a pretty good strategy for me right now. I don’t think it’s the market conditions doing it for me but things seem overly complicated now. I think the SL team is doing a great job overall but I don’t know what would drive the excitement again.

I feel I should be doing the same with splinterlands, as it seems that it is all just bot users now. new cards coming in, the bots can use them well straight away, everyone using bots keeps winning most of the time. :/

Yeah I hear you man that's one of the things that is annoying me. I’ve got a pretty decent deck for diamond league and I get slaughtered like fish in a barrel it’s annoying. That’s what adds to my stress and frustration lol so it wasn’t healthy. Now I can let the others who want to ensure that use my stuff! Lol
