RE: The Splinterlands Energy Fix

I barely get to the point where I'm able to get in 24 Battles a day right now. The problem is that they keep creating new currencies out of thin air with Grain being one of the latest and are forced to one way or another give it value afterward. This makes it so that value usually moves from one place to another and card collections have suffered the most making many players unwilling to put more money in.

The only real thing needed is new players but let that be the update that has gotten pushed back for years now. The one thing that could make me put more money in the game is to have cards be a long-term investment again which gives some yield (the rental market is completely dead now) and an expected value growth if the playerbase starts growing again.

I'm ok with the amount of currencies although I'm on the fence about vouchers. I have almost 200k SPS and I get like 3.5 per day out of a massive 40k that keep getting printed. Its especially painful to think I have a top 1% card collection so it seems like I shoud be benefitting somewhere in the game from that. A decent rental market would make me pretty happy.

The problem I keep seeing with the different currencies and all these assets is that they jump back and forth on which ones benefit you where. Untamed gets pushed out of modern so its time to sell those and buy rebellion. Oh, GLX gives you an airdrop so sell Splinterlands assets and buy GLX. When SPS was airdropped, it gave a reward for absolutely everything. COLONY should have done the same. That was a missed opportunity.

I fully agree about cards. Matt's insistence that land is enough is the one place where I wholeheartedly disagree with him. Sending bots to wild destroyed all card values completely and made sure they were a bad investment. I've been pushing for anything to burn these cards for years now and after years we're finally going to get a card burning event that probably won't make a dent. When I talk to "influencers" they think cards aren't a problem but cards are still the largest asset class by far in the game. Last I checked they were bigger than SPS, land, DEC, Licences, and all the rest of it combined, yet they are treated like they don't matter. I keep saying it but if they want this game to take off, concentrating on their largest asset class is way more important than even SPS.

Luckily they are trying to do that with the new cards but it doesn't change the fact that old cards are being cast aside which means we all know the new cards will one day be cast aside. When Chaos Legion hit, the narrative amongst new players was that one day these cards would be the envy or tomorrows new players. Then they introduced modern and wild. And then they made wild into such a wasteland that people are trying to get proposasls passed to remove SPS from wild entirely.

re: new players, I just don't see them coming until we fix the card supply and show that old cards still matter. The weight of the card supply will continue to slow down adoption.

exactly, removing collection power requirements also really hurt the card values. They should bring that back at least in wild. As for the values of new cards, it's just a temporary fix as you are sure to get crushed on them eventually.

The only reason so many new players came in the previous cycle was because of the crazy inflated earnings, it's hard to see that coming back and honestly, the only people I would advise to start playing the game now are real Collectible Card Game players who are ok with playing an hour each day and getting just part of their investment back in case they one day move on. This right now is basically the target audience which narrows things down like crazy.

Feels like a lot more changes are needed to fix everything and the rework of the ranked league feels like a solution to make everything more pay2win again so players again feel an urge to buy more cards once they reach a level where they get crushed by those who simply have way better cards. I liked the fact that there at least somewhat was a level playing field with the different leagues but that will be removed.

It's so frustrating because at the core Splinterlands is actually a really fun game with so much potential.
