How Vampiric Blossom Will Impact the Wild Format Meta...

Whoa! It's Not Mayim Bialik back in the 1990s as a Teenage Vampire

This preview of the Vampiric Blossom completes our look at the Earth splinter's contribution to the New Rewards set that will debut on May 31, 2022. This particular card has positives and negatives and it may inspire interest in an old Legendary Summoner that is not used much.

Vampiric Blossom's Alternative Lore

A teenage girl named Blossom found a time machine and she went back to 1993. Times were different back in 1993 and Blossom was incredibly frustrated by the lack of technology and how the world was radically different. She could not return forward in time and her parents were both in Middle School on different ends of the United States.

She was lost and alone. A shape-shifter made a deal with Blossom to return her to 2022, but there was a catch. Blossom did not care, she just wanted to return and the shape-shifter turned her into a walking vampiric plant that feasts on the blood of those who hike the Appalachians in 2010. The catch was not that Blossom would become a vampiric plant intentionally, this was actually the shape-shifter's first time performing any sort of a time-travel stunt. Whoops!

Blossom also can't make TikToks anymore, so there's an upside, right?

Breaking down Vampiric Blossom's Abilities

One BCX Perspective

With Oppress, Vampiric Blossom can take down a Baakjira, Almo Cambio, Venari Heatsmith and others when they are placed in the tank position. Oppress deals double damage to these cards, which made Vampiric Blossom comparable to the Grenadier, but with more health and two extra mana.

The problem is that it is hard to know exactly what tank is going to be used by a given opponent. Counting on Oppress is not exactly a good idea.

Is it a card to use with one BCX? Not really, but it does get better. It's not a card to use with Obsidian, it could do better with other summoners. It's not Chaos Legion friendly.

Bronze Play

This a RARE card, which means that it can only reach Level 2 in Bronze. This card will have more speed and it will benefit from being in the Dragon and Earth decks, just not with the more common summoner choices: Mylor Crowling, Obsidian, and Scarred Llama Mage.

Vampiric Blossom would be good to pair with Hunter Jarx, Earth Elemental and Mitica Headhunter along with a Prince Rennyn as a summoner. Prince Rennyn is the summoner to use here. Wizard of Eastwood would also be a good complement to Vampiric Blossom, but Prince Rennyn is the best option.

With Prince Rennyn, a range lineup with Earth can absolutely dominate Bronze opposition and the rental/purchase investment is relatively lower. A Level 1 Prince Rennyn goes for as much as 15 DEC during a season and can be found for three times less during the earlier part of a season.

A common theme is that this is a card for WILD FORMAT. If you're in MODERN FORMAT, you're not going to be using this card much regardless of level.

Silver Play

Deathblow changes things with this card to give it some form of usefulness in MODERN FORMAT, but it is a very situational card. If you know that an opponent may use the infamous Llama-Kron, Llama-Hydra or Llama-Flesh Golem combination, the Deathblow certainly helps. Pair together Vampiric Blossom with a Level 4 Gargoya Devil and a tank that can heal itself to ensure victory.

This card does not gain the ability to impose extra damage until it reaches Gold play, which is when it is at Level 6.

It is an extremely limited MODERN FORMAT card, but in WILD FORMAT with Prince Rennyn or Selenia Sky, it is a must-use.

Yodin Zaku prices spiked with Countess Sinash's unveiling. Prince Rennyn prices did not.

Try a set up of Prince Rennyn as your summoner with Flesh Golem as the tank, Wood Nymph, Mitica Headhunter, Vampiric Blossom, Hunter Jarx, and Water Elemental.

Gold+ Play

The ability to have immunity in the Earth Deck is a very nice and powerful touch in Diamond Level. Only one other card has immunity in the Earth splinter, Epona. Be prepared to pay $600 or more for that Level 3 Epona that does not even have an attack.

Get Vampiric Blossom to Level 8 with a maxed out Scarred Llama Mage and enjoy having a tank and a relatively affordable range monster with immunity in the backline.

However, once again, the best bet is to combine Vampiric Blossom with Prince Rennyn.

Final Thoughts

This is a card for those who want to play in the Wild Format, it will not get much use in Modern Format. It is great for Close Range matches and it is definitely playable with Prince Rennyn. It feels repetitive, but with Earth, you can play range or magic now with confidence. Life is not the only range splinter, it is just the most accessible.

Being able to have options in the Earth Deck is critical and this card helps round things out considerably.

Prince Rennyn is now undervalued. Get Vampiric Blossom to Level 4 and get a Level 2 Prince Rennyn to really throw opponents a curveball.
