The Ranked Rewards System Update Needs Options and a Clear Path
Choose Your Adventure. Splinterlands Style.

The New Ranked Rewards system has brought out excitement, anger, and whining. The present system of locking in an End of Season Rewards level based on the previous season provides a bone of contention as there are people who want to get more rewards at the expense of possible quality and vice-versa. Then there's the matter of Daily Rewards, which was based on the same quality as End of Season, but now is predicated on level of when the player starts their Daily Focus. There's flexibility for some, none for others.
The New Daily Rewards System is Great for Alt-Accounts
At this point, if you do not have an alt-account, you're a fool. Specialized alt-accounts designed to take on different focuses for a day are the order and the flexibility of the Collection Power level will after June 28, enable a user to create their own adventure as far as how they want their day to go.
Here's an example of this gamesmanship in action.
CrootinsAlt is the player and has 0 Collection Power at a 2500 rating and this player decides that they want to collect as many Bronze Chests as they want in the day. CrootinsAlt will start the Daily Focus with 0 Collection Power and then CrootinsAlt's main account will delegate cards and CrootinsAlt will rent cards for the day to fulfill the focus to put themselves into Silver I or Gold III.
CrootinsAlt does well enough during the day collecting 24-30 Bronze Chests and is satisfied with the results.
Next day, CrootinsAlt decides to collect Silver Chests for the Daily Focus Rewards. CrootinsAlt leaves relevant cards for whatever quest may come (delegated cards are best for this or soon to be expiring cards), somewhere between 15,000 and 100,000 Collection Power and then after finding out what the quest is rent out new cards to reach into Gold I or Diamond III.
Collect 24-30 Silver Chests after a satisfactory session.
During this time, CrootinsAlt has set themselves up for an End of Season Rewards the following season in Gold or Diamond as a result, but has total flexibility over Daily Rewards.
This is not a way to play for those with competitive main accounts, it's a great approach for those with alt-accounts looking to feed cards or rewards into a main account. Alt-accounts are also a great way to experiment in a less risky fashion playing at a higher or lower level. These are feeder and experimental accounts, this could benefit players on their main accounts considerably as it provides more playing experiences. Players who have never played particular summoners will get the opportunity to do so without harming their main account, which is good.
Being unafraid to play Prince Rennyn, Crypt Mancer or The Peakrider is a part of the game playing experience. It enables new counters and ways to take opponents by surprise.
We Can Improve This with Starting Designations
An unchanging starting designation is the best approach for Seasonal Rewards (AKA End of Season Rewards) and Daily Focus Rewards.
The Mandatory and Unchangeable Start of Season Decision for Seasonal Rewards
A decision at the start of the season will dictate the type of rewards to be earned for the End of Season. Want to earn Diamond Loot Chests? Great. Make that your choice, even if you are not in Diamond Level. A Silver or Gold League can opt to play for Diamond Loot Chests at the End of the Season, will it be FAR tougher to earn those chests? Absolutely, but they can get them.
A Diamond Level player can opt to earn Bronze or Silver Chests if they wish as well. Will this mean that the quality of rewards is lower? Absolutely, but it will make it much easier to get a lot of chests at the End of the Season.
Here's the key thing, the Season does not start and ranked play cannot start until a decision is made. Once the decision is made for the Season, the End of Season Rewards the player is aiming for cannot be changed midseason. This means that if a player does not like their End of Season Rewards or feel it may be too paltry for their tastes, the following season, the player can make a different decision to start the next season.
Choose Your Destiny Every Day
You get an opportunity to change your Daily Focus, but also the one-time opportunity to choose your Rewards Chests for the day. This decision is made before Ranked Play can start for the day much like End of Season Rewards.
It's an opportunity to gauge time commitment and confidence in playing with a particular splinter or focus point. Feeling less confident? Play for lesser rewards, but more chests. Feeling more confident and ready to attack the day? Play for Diamond or Champion Rewards and meet the Collection Power requirements to play on these levels.
It's an intriguing proposal for the @splinterlands team. What do you think of these ideas? Make your comments below.
