Card Impressions: Spellbook Support

Greetings Splinterlanders and welcome to another week of strategy talks, battle analysis, and meta musings. This week, the card in question is goblin mystic (lvl 1 card stats as follows: Speed 1, Mana cost 6, Health 3, Magic attack 2, Splinter: Earth, Tank Heal). This card is a hefty does but does heal WHICHEVER position 1 character and deal a whopping 2 magic damage. It is very slow and brittle, but a powerful support for the earth faction that comes with the spellbook. However, this card is very weak versus ANY attack, be warned.

Strategy and Placement

In the fight located here I place goblin mystic as a buffer in 4th place with ONLY a chicken as a buffer in 5th. This worked well for me as I thought the enemy would go with excessively arcane backline damage to the front (Common in reverse speed where the lowest speeds become the fastest because many magic cards are low speed across the Splinters). I went with Brighton Bloom to avoid being damaged by earthquake instead. This fight came down to EARTHQUAKE damage winning the day, paired with the tank heal ability possesed by goblin mystic healining my position 1 characters. That and the fact that Rusty Android has reflect (despite not being used very often with other options available, but in fact has low speed for this ruleset.)

This fight is brutal and only lasts for rounds, but is very percise. Both I and my opponent focus the frontline, in this case android dealing 2 attack damage to the front is better than him surviving another hit and lasting until round 2. This allows for greater focused damage upon the front and the benefit of 2 ticks of damage to the entire enemy lineup every round.

The enemy eventually succumbs in round 4 to the overwhelming barrage of melee and magic, even though I had less legendary's and even used the infamous Rusty Android. My opponent played well that lineup is a magical OBLITERATOR and had a fair selection of self- healing AND flying cards. Well done.

Talking Tidbits: Meta Musings

As we all know magic is HEAVILY prevalent in the current meta, magic is at every turn. For it's trait of ALWAYS hitting (as if having true strike). This also means anti magic (like the reflect ability on Rusty Android) will also have it's place at the forefront of this meta. Both older and newer cards mesh well together and play well here and the separated earning pools in the Wild/Standard update will see interesting changes in the use of cards in this meta and price. In one way or another.
