Out of Time: A Time Mage Strategy Guide w Giveaway
(above image edited from work by Salvador Dali "The Melting Clock 1931")
Hello Splinterlanders and welcome to another card strategy post! I know it's been a while, but what can I say? Life has been busy. This week we will be talking about chaos legion's master debuffer: The time mage. At lvl 5 it acquires rust and at lvl 1 slows all enemies by 1, these are key debuffs to have in the life splinter. Overall I would say this card is an excellent addition to any life splinter collection looking to get some team utility in their lineups.
Strategy and Placement
In my battle located here I placed time mage in second position. With shieldbearer located to the back of my lineup all drawing all aggression to him so my other high damage sneak units (Silvershield Assassin, and Sand worm) are able to make short work of the backline. Note: Chanseus' armor up and triage provided a lot of sustain for Shieldbearer in the backline allowing for a great amount of tanking before the enemy began to strike other units.
As you can see in the lineups below my opponent had similar thoughts about using shieldbearer, but he had less support abilities to keep his tank alive. They went with speed debuff and buff to create a high damage volley, however overall that was not enough compared to the utility given by Chanseus in this case. It should be noted the enemy had an excellent lineup with a large amount of ranged burst damage (a common occurrence in the new meta).
Talking Tidbits: Time Mage
Time Mage is VERY common in the current meta. As a 4 cost at lvl 1 it has a lot of value AND is available as a ghost card in the spellbook (as of writing this post). This card will be very pertinent to the meta as it has rust at higher levels and slow AT LVL 1. That is IMMENSE utility as turn order consideration is very relevant at higher play. An excellent card for life in the current "armor favorable" meta.
Additionally the lore for the Time Mage fits it's ability set.
"They are trusted to peer through the fabric of time and reality to foretell the future or manipulate the present by slowing the flow of time. They can also speed up the aging process of armor, causing it to rust prematurely."
This card exemplifies this even at lvl 1. A very common card available to all of us in our spellbooks. Expect to see this card constantly due to it's debuff utility. The only ruleset in which this card serves no value is reverse speed (you would speed up your opponent even at lvl 1).
