Card Impressions

Greetings Splinterlands to another card overview. This week we will be talking about the Wood Nymph, a fragile healer for the earth splinter. Utilizing magic damage (a common damage type among healers) the Wood Nymph has ONLY 2 hp at 4 mana cost. This is a very poor amount of hp for 4 mana. However, because of the recenlt added Obsidian summoner. Wood nymph now is much more viable than she was in the past. It should be noted that NOW, this card can ONLY be encountered in Wild (for better or worse).

Strategy and Placement

This card should be place in the backline to heal your position 1 tank. Due to it's low HP and the large likelihood of opportunity (particularly if Water is an available splinter) it is necessary to place cannon fodder to absorb those hits (sneak is also a strong possibility).

In the featured "wild" fight from the times after the modern/wild division I place wood nymph in position 3 with Centauri Mage and Unicorn Mustang as primary tanks. It works to astounding effect. The DOUBLE healing creates excess tankiness in position 1, that paired with silence (Mushroom seer) and Sand worm leave the enemy in shambles.

Note: Goblin Mech being an "armor" tank worked to the enemy's detriment and was the main cause of rapid defeat.

Meta Musings: Now and Then

In it's time Wood Nymph was one of the ONLY cards with healing for the earth faction. Now there are several, however it is STILL one of the only ones to have healing at lvl 1. To top it all off this card pairs well with the heavily meta used Obsidian summoner (+1 Magic) in Chaos Legion. A card I've

Talking Tidbits: Wood Nymph, Many Occurrences

In the Splinterlands lore Wood Nymphs are:

"A peculiar new bud appeared at the tips of the highest branches of the Elder Tree. The animals living in the tree watched as the strange buds grew, and in a matter of days, burst open. From each bud zoomed forth a tiny sprite. These Wood Nymphs quickly scattered around Anumün in a frenzy of mischief."

In Greek mythology wood nymphs are roughly guardians of the forest known as "Dryads". However, in the Greek mythology there are known to be a tad mischievous like in the tale of Arcas where he saves a dryad inside of a tree during a flood. It's nice to see a similar tree based origin and mythology, but this is a fantasy staple across ARPGs and video games alike. It's nice to see it here too.
