Success stops counting when you stop setting goals

Let me start this article by saying, success occurs in stages and means different things to different people. An average person might pray to have $5,000 in their account, and when they achieve that, they set another goal, and life continues. Meanwhile, there's someone out there wishing to buy a continent, and when they achieve that, they aspire to buy the planet. Also, there's someone else just pushing to secure finance that will last for food provision for a month, and when they achieve that, they consider it a success.

I've experienced these progressions in life, and I believe that success doesn't only mean reaching a state where one has everything they desire, it has to do with satisfaction. As we all know, human needs are insatiable. Even those we consider successful today are still striving to achieve more.

The moment when someone is labeled successful is simply when they are satisfied with an achievement at that moment.

Before this moment in my life, all I ever wanted was to graduate from school. It was my ultimate goal, which I pursued diligently until I finally succeeded. I was elated when my dream came true, and although I knew life after school wouldn't be easy, my focus was on crossing that bridge first.

Now that I'm out of school, what does success mean? Honestly, this is where a typical African person has a fixed definition of success: getting a job, getting married, and building a house. Okay, this is all well and good. At this stage, a person is seen as successful because they have a house, a spouse, and maybe children. But what about educating these children or training them in a vocation to ensure their success? Shouldn't we also consider a person's success in that?

You see, after a person has marked themselves as successful to the world, a new chapter opens where they aim for further success. Even when a person succeeds in educating their children well, a new chapter begins when they need to consider retiring from work and establishing something to provide for the family without depending solely on a pension (of course, pensions are not readily available in my country).

In summary, success is a state of achieving one's goals in a satisfied manner. Your success stops counting when you stop setting goals, and is it even possible to stop setting goals? Human needs are insatiable.

Thanks.

I think it's only a dead man that would stop setting goals, we keep chasing bigger things even when we get the big things we prayed and worked for.
