Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Challenge - Reverse Speed

image.png

The featured ruleset this week adds the Reverse Speed to all monsters on the battlefield.

The ruleset can be recognized by the following icon:

This ability makes the monsters with the lowest speed attack first. The speed component of the attack accuracy is also affected by this (e.g. if no other accuracy modifiers, a monster with 3 speed will miss a monster with 2 speed 10% of the time).

The battle being shared is from ranked play in modern champion league. My deck was mostly composed by diamond/gold league maxed CL + non soulbound reward cards, as well as variable level soulbound reward cards.

Rulesets

This was a high mana battle with cap of 44. The Fire, Water, Earth and Dragon splinters were available. It had 3 rulesets:

  • Unprotected: Monsters do not have any armor and do not get armor from Abilities or Summoner Buffs.
  • Lost Legendaries: Legendary Monsters may not be used in battles.
  • Reverse Speed: Monsters with the lowest Speed attack first and have the highest chance of evading attacks.

Mine

Possibilus - Focusing on low speed, the idea was to pick a summoner without speed boost (Tarsa/Possibilus/Immortallis/Obsidan were the choices), and a splinter with reasonable HP monsters due to no armor.

Nerissa Tridawn - Good HP and decent speed and 5 damage on top, not a monster you usually see as a tank, but was a good choice considering what was available.

Riverboat Captain - Affliction and decent HP and speed, possible 5 damage with blast.

Magi of Chaos - Decent HP and speed and strong 4 damage.

Deeplurker - Chosen to pick off weaker targets and make use of the trample if/when no tank, susceptible to missing since it had higher speed.

Algelic Mandarin - Reduce magic damage and triage to heal the tank.

Wave Brood - tank to mitigate spell damage and return ranged damage, great HP and speed.

Team was created to focus on low speed (avoid prejudicial speed modifiers) and add a bit of survivability with HP due to the lack of armor.

Opponent

My opponent focused on low speed and damage mitigation, with 2 tanks with void and return fire, 1 of them with thorns, 2 demoralizes. No healing was present.

Round 1

At the end of round 1 everything was still alive, but opponent main tank was already quite low in health, while my monsters were almost full health.

Round 2

Both of opponents tanks went down while my full lineup is all still up. Match seems pretty much decided already.

Round 3

From 4 opponent monsters we went down to 2, most of mine still up and well.

Round 4

As expected oppent was defeated.

Conclusion

With so much focus on mitigation, my opponent ended up not having the damage to burst my main tank, which i had to burst his, and from them on it was free reign to go trough all his team.
