4 Things You Can Do to Earn Passive Income With Splinterlands

Play-to-earn blockchain-based gaming is here; and it's here to stay.

Splinterlands is leading the pack for both gamers and non-gamer investors.

The game has recently broken records, during both August and September 2021. Full story here: https://www.splintertalk.io/@splinterlands/splinterlands-continues-to-fly

Splinterlands is a huge success story in the Hive ecosystem; and I am pretty sure we'll continue to witness tremendous growth for the rest of 2021, 2022 and beyond.

Everyone wants to be part of the game; gamers and investors alike. I say investors, because even if you're not a gamer, you can certainly take advantage of the incredible growth.

Here's a list of things you can do to generate a passive income from Splinterlands without actually playing the game on a daily basis.

Of course, knowing the game will give you a big advantage if you want to really maximize your profits.

For example, if you do daily battles, even if you don't always win, that will help you understand the game better.

Here's 4 things you can do today to earn a passive income with Splinterlands 👇

Buying and Holding DEC

DEC (Dark Energy Crystals) is the native currency of the NFT trading card game Splinterlands.

In this case, you'd want to purchase DEC, and hold the token in your in-game wallet for as long as you want.

Remember that DEC should appreciate in value overtime; as more and more people buy it and use it to invest in the game.

Moreover, holding DEC will also give you SPS (Splintershards) daily, which is the governance token of the game.

For the rest of 2021, and a good part of 2022 we will see a year-long airdrop period; and this only recently started. As of today, we have roughly 10 months or airdrops ahead of us.

Blogging on Splintertalk: SPT and SPS Staking

As mentioned above, SPS is the new cryptocurrency governance token for the game.

By blogging on Splintertalk (just like this post you're reading) you get SPT, which in turn earns you SPS.

But remember, SPT (Splintertalk) has nothing to do with DEC; they're two different things. SPT is a second-layer Hive token rewarded for blogging on the Splintertalk platform.

SPT rewards are divided 50/50 between the author of the post and all the curators who have voted on the content. This is paid out entirely in liquid SPT tokens after a few days.

Also, remember that SPT rewards count towards Splintershards (SPS) airdrop points.

Moreover, SPS can be staked within the in-game wallet, which currently can get you a nice ~136% APR at the time of writing this in September 2021. The APR will decrease overtime.

What you want to do is claim your SPS daily and stake them, which will get you compound interest on your investment.

Finally, keep in mind that even just by holding DEC (1st tactic above) you earn SPS.

The rule is simple here: Stake your SPS to get the airdrops.

Buy and Sell Cards on the Market for a Profit

I said this above, even if you don't play the game, knowing it will pay off. In fact, another tactic is trading cards (buying and selling the cards).

You can jump on the market and purchase, for example, cards like these ones below. Of course, you want to get those that are rare and low in supply. This is a broad topic I won't cover here.

You can then sell them on the open market whenever you want.

However, only choose those that you can afford to buy. Once you own a few of them, it's now time to wait for appreciation and then sell them on the market for a profit.

Considering the Splinterlands tremendous growth as a game, you could make some good profits in a matter of 6-12 months.

Buying cards become a passive income when you apply this other tactic below.

Buying and Renting Cards to Players

We've just mentioned how purchasing cards and selling for a profit is a great idea.

However, while you wait for the value appreciation, you can rent the cards to other players.

Renting cards is another great way to earn passive income in the form of DEC.

It's relatively easy to rent cards on the market and the demand is very high; mostly during season end.

It's a total win-win situation. You monetize your cards today by renting them and sell them for a profit in 6-12 months 🤯

Closing Thoughts

Splinterlands is here to stay. Whether you're a gamer or not, you better pay attention. We can all exploit this opportunity for fun and for profit.

I strongly believe this is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to blockchain-based play-to-earn gaming in the "Splinterlands land" and beyond.
