Splinterlands ~ The Past Week in Rewards

avatar

On my @dbooster.spt account, I have been posting my daily rewards in this game for the past several months. Well, my posting has been inconsistent over there, so we'll say somewhat daily.

My goal in doing this has been

  1. To motivate people to play the game. I like Splinterlands and therefore I am interested in its continued success; if seeing the rewards I make from the game can inspire more people to start playing, that's a big win.
  2. For a starting place for a post. Sometimes something in my daily rewards inspires me to write about a specific aspect of the game, investment strategy, or so on.
  3. To motivate myself to improve my own tracking. I always have kept a spreadsheet of my earnings in the game, but posting about them has given me ideas to improve the spreadsheet. Tracking is always worthwhile, after all, and not just to make it easier to report taxes at the end of the year. It doesn't take long to enter the data and at some point in the future, you may look back and be glad you did.

I thought I might start doing a weekly roundup post here on this account. Maybe more often, I don't know. I haven't really experimented at doing more than one post per day since the early days of Steemit (those who were around 5 years ago may remember my schedule used to be a photo post in the morning and a haiku translation post in the evening, everyday). At any rate, this account gets a lot more attention than that one, so maybe if I post a weekly roundup post here it will be seen by people who wouldn't normally see it and motivate them to try the game.

Or maybe not, I don't know. This could be the only one I do. That could make it a collectors item! Hmm... can you make an NFT from a post?

Anyway, let's dive in to my past week on Splinterlands.

My Past Week in Splinterlands

Reward Cards

This one will be kind of cheating since it's not a full week to review. But this is more of a trial post, so I think it's ok.

Tuesday saw me in Gold II. My rewards for the daily quest weren't great, but then again, there was a rare, so that is always good to see.

With DEC from chests added in, the dollar value was:

20 cents. Not great, but not bad. These cards are all sinking in value right now, but after the print run ends they will go up in price, making them all worth stacking now.

Wednesday wasn't much better. Still stuck in Gold II, I got the following:

At least another rare, so that was good.

With DEC, only 18 cents! Going down...

Thursday, however, proved much better. On that day I got

Two rares—much better. I also got two Chaos Legion packs!

That might be kind of cheating, I don't know. I didn't open the packs since I don't have enough potions, so I couldn't value them at the cards inside. Instead I valued them at the price of the packs, bringing the day's total to $8.35. Woohoo!

On Friday the good luck continued! I pushed into Diamond III and got the following:

Wow, that's a lot of cards. On the downside, it meant I didn't get any DEC. Oh well.

The dollar value may have been less than the day before, but getting so many cards is always a thrill. Stacking, stacking.

Finally yesterday, I received:

Luck...dropping... DEC may always be good, but when it wastes 4 chest spots with low values, that is a bit disappointing. Oh well! Dollar-wise, the day added to:

Which puts me back down to where I was at the start, at (around) 20 cents.

That makes a total this week of $9.572! Not a bad return for only a few minutes work over five days. Now I didn't sell any of them and am just holding (actually renting out, but that's neither here nor there) so that nine and a half is just theoretical income, but still, if I had sold I could have gotten around that.

Renting

Renting income in this game is up and down, but right now it is mostly up.

Usually I have to wait till the end of the season for daily rent amount to go past 1000, but this season we've already gotten past that level. Does this indicate interest in the game is increasing? We can only hope!

That totals up to $9.216 in DEC in rentals. Now once again, I am currently reinvesting all of this because prices are currently down and generally I think down periods are the time to compound our earnings instead of cashing out.

Added to the daily rewards, that brings us to $18.788.

DEC from Battles

Finally, what did I earn from the battles themselves?

Not a huge amount. Most serious Splinterlands players probably make much much more per day from daily battles. Still, it's not bad. All together that is $1.526.

In Total

That brings my total earned in USD for the past five days of Splinterlands to $20.31. Compared to a lot of the more serious players, that is nothing. Then again, compared to new players, that may be a lot. I think I'm probably in the midrange of players and investors, so maybe it's good to share the numbers so that you might see how much you might expect from the game if you don't have as much to invest as some of the whales do.

I spend less than an hour each day playing and I only fiddle with rental prices for a few minutes each week, but for the purpose of this calculation we'll call it an hour per day. That comes to around $4.06 per hour. That's terrible compared to a real job, but for a game that doesn't really require much focus (I usually listen to an audiobook or something on Youtube while I play) it's not bad.

Right now Splinterlands is in a lull and this is causing everything to drop. Back a few months ago when the game was booming, I was getting more that $20.31 per day instead of per week. We may return to that booming time soon. If you missed it, be sure to watch the recent Splinterlands Town hall—or read about it on the offical post—or, watch the shorter review of the town hall by my buddy @stever82. The future is very very bright for this game.

If you're not in now, I'd urge you to take a look at the game. It is, in truth, a little frustrating to new players at the moment. But they have very big plans to address that with the updates mentioned during the Town Hall.

If you are interested in signing up, you can do so at this link. That is an affiliate link. If you sign up with it, leave me a comment and I'll see about delegating you some good cards for a few weeks to help get you started.

Anyway, that's this past week in the game. Or the past five days, at least. Depending on how things go, I may do another post like this next week. If I do, I'll cover the full seven days of the week next time. Till then—keep playing!
