Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Challenge: Quora Won. Against Me.

Hey splinterlands lover, I come your way a week to share some battle mage secrets. Unfortunately, this secret might not help you much. Didn’t do much for me as you’re about to find out.

Anyways, the ruleset for the week is broken arrows, which basically doesn’t allow ranged attacks to be used in battles. This wasn’t a big deal to me, because I’m not much of a ranged attack user anyways.

Let’s get into the details of the battle…

My Opponent’s Lineup

Summoner123

My Line up and strategy

Strategy

I used Prunda Undervesch as my summoner so that I could summon both water and . When I saw Quora in my opponent’s line up, I knew I was probably going to lose, because the mana cap of the battle did not allow me flexibility to use monsters that could properly and effectively counter Quora. For instance, I wanted to use Venari Spellsmith to dispel Quora’s buffs, and use Revealer’s stun to hopefully stall Quora long enough for my team to take care of her.

Since that wasn’t going to be possible, I decided to go with a strategy that sort of fortified me against melee attacks from the front and magic attacks from the back.

Line Up

Summoner1234

In first position, I put Grimbardun Fighter. This is my go-to card when I anticipate heavy melee attack. In this case, I normally use … to demoralize my opponent’s melee attack monsters. If they already do not have a melee attack greater than 2, once they’re demoralized to one, their attacks don’t affect Grimbardum Fighter anymore. But like I said, the mana cap of this battle didn’t afford me the luxury.

In position 2, I put Merdaali Guardian who is a tank heal. I know. You’re probably thinking “what a stupid mistake” or “yeah that is a huge mistake”. I’ll explain why I did that. I had wanted to put Baakjira in second position. But since the one of the reasons I wanted to use Baakjira was so I could weapon-train it, that means, Moxian Rebel had to right next to it, which would ultimately mean that my tank heal would be at the back of the line up. Considering that I noticed my opponent was fond of using sneak monsters, you can see how this would’ve been a bad idea. Instead, I trusted my tank, Grimbardum fighter would be able to hold up the front line long enough, possibly preventing my healer from ever coming to the front.

In position 3, I put Moxian Rebel. There’s no particularly special reason why I put Moxian Rebel in this position. But I used her because I needed to weaponize the monster in my fourth position.

Finally, at the back line, I had Baakjira. As I already explained, Baakjira came last so it could be weapn-trained by Moxian Rebel. I also anticipated that its high health + slow should work well for the team long enough until it has to move to the front itself. Assuming that by the time it gets to the front Quora was extremely magic-buffed, Baakjira’s void would’ve come in useful too.

The Battle

The battle started with monster and summoner buffs and debuffs

Round 1

In this round, both teams took some damages, but because there was a tank healer on each team, the damages were not severe. My tank lost his shield at the end of the round though, so it was open fire on him from there on.

Round 2

I killed my opponent's tank in this round. My tank wasn't doing so well though, and the fact that quora was now in front head to head against him made it scarier. At the end of the round, My tank was sitting at 2 health, basically a sitting duck waiting for Quora to finish him off (pun intended)

Round 3

At the start of this round, I was in a battle of speed: will my tank healer be able to heal my tank up before Quora deals her deadly attack? I found out the answer to that was disappointingly no. Quora took him out with a magic blast and buffed up. You could say the rest from here is history. Lol. My tank healer which only had 3 health was moved to the front and saw a swift death the very next second from Quora's melee attack. Then Moxian Rebel was taken out by magic attack from my opponent's healer.

Round 4

As the last standing monster of team, Baakjira did not stand a chance: Quora + Psychic Goblin - totally outmatched and alone. It did deal a few hits to Quora though. Not that it affected her much cos not only was she a healer herself, she had another tank healer behind her also healing her and simultaneosly blasting away at my whale. Baakjira met its end soon and I lost the battle.

Comments

I don't know how to say it, but it seems so far, the more I play, the more clouded my judgement becomes. I come accross so many interesting cards everyday, and once I rent them, I want to put them to use in all the battles. Sometimes though, I would be better off using normal cards, especially for instance, in the case of low mana cap battles. But because of the many cards I know now, it seems I am confused which monsters to choos. Ah well... that's the thrill of the game, I guess. Maybe I'll do a deeper dive into this topic in another post some time. Thanks for coming this far:)

My relationship with Quora is very complicated. I love her. But I also hate her with passion. It depends on whose side she is. Now that I don't have a Quora myself, it's mostly hate. But even when she's destroying me, I can't help but admire her power of destruction 😂
