Hello Splinterlands players

This post is my the Battle Mage Secret challenge, a routine weekly event where we discuss a battle with a certain ruleset. As of this week, we are having BORN AGAIN Ruleset as our theme.

BORN AGAIN is a ruleset that gives all units in the battlefield a Rebirth ability. This means everyone who dies will get resurrected again. There are several ways on how we can exploit this ruleset.

The most approach I have seen recently was about having Martyr, that way the martyr will die twice and buffs twice too. It's a nasty way to win and easy to use, I guess those two reason becomes people motivation why they choose that way.

How about me? I often use that too, but this time I will show another approach. Instead of using any martyr, I will focus my line up on my bloodlust unit. There are two reasons why I choose this one:

1. When resurrected, all unit will start by 1 health point. This is a condition we can say as a food for any Bloodlust unit, one hit they get buff due to killing that target.
2. Sometime there are situations that we can not have some martyr, maybe a ruleset forbids it or the mana cap is very limited.

Ok let's check our battle!

THE BATTLE

This was a Bronze League battle of Modern Format. I was using @Blackkrrsantan, a Scholarship account for Juice Guild from bulldog1205 one of our famous streamer. You can check his account and his twitter too, recently he share many contents outside his youtube channel.

Recently I have been playing on Wild Format and forget that on the modern format my rank has dropped a lot. So a few days ago I pushed my modern rank again, and got this battle.

It's a bronze league so the ruleset was not a complicated one. There were Fire and Water element that were full of Opportunity and Sneak attackers. If I used a martyr, I would go with water and got the Gladius Isgald Vorst and would have him double boosted by the martyr death twice... However that's not our goal, so I would focus on this girl:

Yes Katie. I know this is a weird move however I believe when a unit dies and gets resurrected, the only protection we could give is armors... and katie is a bloodlust mage, so any armor won't work for her.

Would this work?, let see how the battle went:

• The battle started with both of us buffing up our team and debuffing our opponents. Bronze League cap bro, don't expect something that spectacular.
• My opponent had 16 melee damage per round, that's a full melee line up he had.
• My team had 2 melee damage, 1 range damage and 5 magic damage. Combined all, they became 8 damage per round.
• My opponent used an all out attack approach, while I was more like a turtle with Captain Katie doing the sniping kill.

• Gobalano Soldier indeed very annoying, moved first with ambush then moved again for the round 1. Thanks to him, my Izziar died however due to Born Again, we had this round 2 looked like an equal 6 vs 6 match up.
• Anyway Did you spot the bug? If you had ambush units and did the replay and moved back 1 round, actually the round displayed would not move back. So it started from round 2, round 1 was only for ambusher

• Things looked bad for me, as I was losing the slugfest. 5 vs 6 now and soon the gap should be bigger.

• Look!! My opponent had better fire power, more units, faster... they did not have any lack on any criterias... The gap should be widen

• As expected, the gap got widen. However I believed my Captain Katie would start menacing on this round

• Katie became the major threat now. 5 magic damage, so she would kill anyone she hit even they were at full health. So I would fast forward the battle, because from this point forward, there was only Captain Katie killing spree we would see

• Ok, this was the last round.. Good Game

CLOSURE AND DISCUSSION

It was a great come back, from losing for several rounds, then Katie started her killing spree and turn the table upside down... Wining with some style. Ok lets see what points we can take from this battle.

1 Basic Mechanic on Lower League

Would this approach work for Gold League and Above? Well of course not, even on Silver if I use this lineup I would get beaten badly. I would go with Isgald Vorst for Gold. So why do I use this battle? because It is strong for the BRONZE LEAGUE.

I used Franz Ruffmane and he gave me +1 armor buff for all my units. For higher league this could be compensate by having some protect ability, however things are a big different on Bronze where the protect ability holders was very scarce.

So I won not only because of Katie, but I chose the right summoner. Keyla Frendul was ofcourse better, she had extra +1 speed too, But we could blame my opponent why he chose Tarsa over her

2. Hard To Counter Bloodlust on Bronze

How to counter this Katie? easy just use dispel ability, she would be back on her default... However its not as easy like that on Bronze. On Bronze everything goes as for the basic, hit harder, hit faster, withstand damage more... We do not plan deep on skills because most of them have not activated yet.

That's why its easier to exploit using bloodlust on bronze. If we bring the counter, the dispel ability holder, we would be easily beaten due to lack of fire power.

3. It doesn't have to be a Martyr

Ok let make this simple, will a martyr work on this ruleset... Yes they will work greatly, however the earth was not available on this battle. There won't be that god damn QUORA TOWERSHEAD. If we could have her, of course we could expect a martyr in front of her. But without her... You need to think twice

Taunting your opponent to kill the martyr first is always a great idea, however sometime it won't work due to some limitation. for example in this battle, I believe by ditching the idea of having a martyr, I have put better wall and meat bait to protect my Katie.
