BATTLE MAGE SECRETS: PREPARE TO COUNTER MAGIC DURING FIRE AND REGRET

(Edited)

Good Morning Hivers, welcome back to my second weekly Splinterlands BATTLE MAGE SECRETS. As for today Battle Mage Secrets topic, We have this Fire and Regret ruleset.

FIRE AND REGRET Ruleset gives all cards on the battle field, the Return Fire ability. This means all range attacks will be retaliated and the attacker will receive some damage back. How many damage will be returned? It is equal to damage of the attacker divided by 2, then its rounded up. Reflection Shield can negate the returned damage, however there aren't many range attackers who have that ability. In general here are two option we can do during this ruleset:

1. KICK OUT RANGE ATTACKERS FROM YOUR SELECTION

Well this sound a bit silly, but the best way during Fire and Regret ruleset is not to bring any range attackers. By doing this, hopefully we won't REGRET because we won't fire any range attacks.

Usually people will come with magic over melee. I do not know the reasons, maybe we are more afraid our sneak attackers bump onto Thorn Wall rather than having our mages die from magic reflect.

2. BRING AMPLIFY ABILITY HOLDER

Venari Spellsmith is the most popular choice in this method, well he is cheap and everyone has him anyway. Amplify will increase the returned damage, so this can lead to killing the attackers quicker.

However there is a drawback in this method. If your opponent bring no range attackers, you might end up bringing a weak card in your team. Make sure the Amplify Ability holder has another ability that can be handy in your team, or atleast aligned with your approach.

THE BATTLE

This was a Modern Gold league rank battle, the rulesets were quire interesting.

There was a Noxious Fumes ruleset, which made all cards got poisoned. I thought that time that:

  1. Magic attackers would be useless because most of them had low health point. My opponent would only need to defend 3-4 rounds then they would automatically win because my magic team would be annihilated.
  2. Choosing Djinn Oshannus from Water Element seemed interesting. backed up by one healer Merdaali Guardian and River Nymph. However there would not be enough damage per round and this formation easily countered by Death Team.
  3. My main preference would be Fire Element or Death Element. Somehow I chose Fire that time.

My fire consisted only 2 core monsters who were:

Grum Flameblade would act as my anti magic tank. His job was to withstand magic attacks as long as he could, I did not expect him to survive. Hopefully when all backline monsters died, he could give way to his team mate, Forgotten One, to stand up and duel opponent last survivor
Tide Biter would hold the most important role here. I believed none would be willing sending their sneak attackers in his battle due to that Thorny ruleset. most of the sneak attackers were melee units. As long Djinn Oshannus lives, Tide Biter will negate all the blast effect

ROUND 1

image.png

  • The battle started with both of us Buffing up our team and debuffing our opponents.
  • My opponent came with 1 range damage and 3 magic damage, a total 4 damage per round.
  • My team had 5 Melee damage only.
  • in this battle, both of us seemed to prefer playing defensively. In the end, this would be a showdown between Forgotten One vs Harklaw

ROUND 2

image.png

  • Nobody died in the first round. However Nuxious Fumes would kill many in this round.

ROUND 3

image.png

  • I lost all my small monsters, and they did too. Its all on how my Grum Flameblade vs Their Riftwing and Magi Necrosi making way for the main Melee card showdown duel

ROUND 4

image.png

  • My Grum Flameblade could not hit RiftWing properly. 3 speed difference and fly ability, these gave 45% dodge rate to the Riftwing. Meanwhile Riftwing kept delivering damages from its backfire ability.
  • let me fast forward this battle:

ROUND 9

image.png

  • Finally Riftwing died from poison damages.
  • In this stage, my win was already secured. Grum Flameblade managed to make way and challenge Harklaw first. Their Harklaw would have the last duel in injured state, no chance of winning

ROUND 12

  • Round 12 was the last round. Good Game

CLOSURE AND DISCUSSION

I am glad I did not come with Djinn Oshannus Team, its exactly what my opponent had been waiting for. It seemed my opponent did not prepare to face a melee only squad, and that's how their plan failed. Ok lets sum up our battle into some points:

1. During FIRE AND REGRET, everyone already prepares to battle magic team.

My team had Grum Flameblade with its Void Ability and Void Armor ability, Their team had Thaddeus Brood with his -1 Magic damage debuff. It's true that Magic attacks might be the best solution during this ruleset, however bear in mind that everyone will already prepare to face out magic opponents.

2. SOMETIME THE BEST BECOMES THE WORST , THE WORST BECOMES THE BEST

What do I mean with that sentence? Sometime cards or monsters we bring as our main, becomes a flop. And some cards which we have prepared as feeder, or just filler, can become MVP contender.

In this battle, Riftwing performed superbly. Honestly all his team mate failed to keep up his performance. If only they have more attackers from backline, they might really took down my Grum Flameblade first.

Magi Necrosi is a threat to backline monsters and the sole reason why I think bringing Djinn Oshannus won't work against death element, because Magi Necrosi would be able to wipe all my backline support.

However in this battle, Magi Necrosi who should be my biggest threat, became a flop. He kept hitting my backline monsters who bound to die from poison damage. So He was wasting his early chance to attack Grum FLameblade.

The reason I won big in this battle, not because of Level difference... because their meta did not work properly. Things would be more even if he changed or swapped that Magi Necrosi with Magi of Chaos

Ok that's all for today post. Have fun with your FIRE AND REGRET battles!!
