BATTLE MAGE SECRETS: RISE OF THE WATERS

Howdy fellow Splinterlands Players.
How are you today? I am far from ok right now but I hope you are fine there. As always I do this, Another week, another Splinterlands post from me. Welcome to my weekly Splinterlands BATTLE MAGE SECRETS challenge. Today we have RISE OF THE COMMONS ruleset as our theme.

This is the ruleset where we can only use common and rare units in battles. Exceptions only for summoners. I like this ruleset because most of the situation is about understanding of the basic units in each edition.
However there is one weakness in this ruleset for the modern format. I think Chaos Legion Water Element is kind of Over Powered in this ruleset. They have too many great commons-rares in their line up that suitable or compatible towards each others.
This makes Chaos Legions Water Element stands ahead of other elements. That's why I tend to say to my friends that this ruleset should be renamed to RISE OF THE WATERS.
Let's see our battle then...
THE BATTLE
This was a Modern Gold league rank battle, and I was using BLACKRRSANTAN, a scholarship account from bulldog1205 the famous streamer. I used this account mostly to play Brawl for JUICE GUILD. Anyway if you are a diamond league player and looking for a good guild to play competitive brawl, please drop us a message. Let's get back to the main business, here were the rulesets we got:

There were two steps I took to build up my line up here.
- First I saw the other rulesets that were there. We had that counterspell ruleset. We could expect there would not be any mages here, or maybe one as a speculative move. It's almost a sure thing to say there would not be anyone picking earth element here.
- The options were only to go with Kelya or Quix the devious which both of them would depend on water team. I picked Kelya because I wanted to go with a full slugfest melee team and I needed that 1 armor from Kelya.
Because I guessed that this would be a water vs water battle and both would not use magic attack due to counterspell ruleset, I chose a couple cards as my trump cards. we would see if he made the big difference or not here....

- The battle started with both of us buffing up our team and debuffing our opponents.
- My opponent came with 12 Melee Damage, and 8 range damage. It's a combined 20 damage per round.
- My team had 14 Melee damage and 3 range damage. Combined all it's 17 damage per round.
- It's a battle of fire power vs agility. My opponent came with 20 damage per round, or precisely its 25 damage per round if we counted taht double strike ability. My team led in speed because I had Pelacor Bandit which was one of my trump card here.

- My speculation paid off... Their team kept missing the hit in the first round that's why my team looked in very good condition in the beginning of second round.
- As the same in first round, their Deep Lurker missed again. It's a massive blow for them whenever their hard hitters missed an attack.

- They lost their Merdaali Guardian in the second round. My Deep Lurker killed her. From this point on, the killing started.

- Ouch, that must be hurt... throwing away 2 x 5 melee damage

- They looked even worse in the 4th round. Their positive point was they managed to take down my Merdaali Guardian too in the third round.

- Round fifth started with 5 vs 3 condition. It's a nasty condition where all my units were faster than them. This meant my team would beat them out before they managed to make any move.

- and They paid the price here... Good Game

CLOSURE AND DISCUSSION
That was a very interesting battle, because both of us came with the same water element however our Meta was very different. I came with agility, hit first and very evasive, they came with a tremendous fire power. There are 3 good points we can take from that battle.
1. WATER IS THE BEST
Hahaha, I know this is one side conclusion from me, however I believe many Splinterlands players out there agree with me. In that battle both of us use water element, which mean both of us having good faith that water element is the solution.
And the fact that we came and fought each other using different meta proved that there were some good meta available there in Water Element Modern Format. Not just one or two.
2. MY TRUMP CARDS WORK!!
I have two trump cards in that battle. They are so ordinary that most people often forget how dangerous they are in the team if they are not well anticipated.

The first one is this squid, Flying one. The one that dangerous about this squid is the blind ability he has. It gives +15% evasion rate. I might be lucky evading so many attacks but it would not happen if Flying Squid was not in the line up.

The second one is Pelacor Bandit. He is not a lethal killer, but he is deadly due to his speed and the blind ability from Flying Squid. In that battle, opponent Deepluker wasted all its attack on him and that was the biggest part why they failed badly.
In Rise of Commons, there aren't many units with true aim ability or fast speedy opportunist attacker. So Pelacor Bandit became a dangerous bait here, especially for luring Opportunity attackers such as Deep Lurker.
3. THERE ARE MONSTROUS UNITS THAT FLOP

My opponent was not bad, they were good. However they used wrong meta againts me, or perhaps they had bad luck only?
Deeplurker and Sea Stalker did not work well against me, however in general, They are too much for other elements. Check hat Sea Stalker. If they fight Earth Element, or Life Element, that Sea Stalker would easily slaughter opponent's backline units every turn.
This is one of the reason why I have said earlier Water are kind of OP and they should name this ruleset RISE OF THE WATERS.
ok that's for today, Have fun with RISE OF THE COMMONS ruleset. And please and don't forget to leave your comment or feedback below. thank you.
