Hello guys, welcome back again to my Splinterlands Battle Mage Secret challenges, a weekly Splinterlands contest on sharing out our battles. Today post is about Fab Four Ruleset, a new ruleset that limit maximum 4 units only in our team that could give the best outcome.

Actually Fab Four, or maybe the long name is Fabulous Four, is not much different with our ordinary ruleset. This is only important when the mana limit is very big, so we must twist our brain to bring 4 big guys.

Things would be different with small mana cap battle. Sometime we could not pick many unit in small mana cap, let say the below 16 mana battle. When it happens, FAB FOUR ruleset should not be a significant one. So just play like ordinary ruleset, focus on one core unit.

THE BATTLE PREPARATION

I have said above, small mana cap battle, so here was the ruleset I found for this post:

Fab Four with 15 mana, wonderful. It's like picking 4 units with each 2-3 mana. The challenge would be that Maneuver (reach) and Target Practice (snipe) ruleset. Honestly, with target practice, having a martyr, Venari Marksrat, is always favorable.

However I had strong feeling that mostlikely my opponent would do the same. So I must change my tactic here, a bit not "mainstream" with that Venari Marksrat. So here was my line

PositionCardAbilityPlan and Strategy
Summoner-1 Magic, -1 lifeThere are two reason why I would go with Thaddius Brood. First my main or core unit will be Cursed Windeku. Second, I must prepare incase they had Obsidian or any magic attacking meta
Main TankThorn, HealMy plan is simple, focus on one unit and the rest are meant to support the core unit. This is my core unit, Cursed Windeku. The reason is simple, good melee damage, a thorn ability and heal... He will keep healing himself 3 point per round, and this number is very important.
SecondReflection Shield, Camouflage, Immunity, SlowA hard pick one, I want to exploit the reach but I am aware of the danger having Cursed Windeku as my opponent too. So Reflection Shield is an alternative solution I want to take here.
ThirdSneak, PoisonThis one is important too, killing their backline incase they have a healer or a support behind. For a small mana cap battle, Uraeus is one of the best unit you can get for many kind of meta
FourthnoneJust a meat wall behind, so my uraeus won't be killed easily

THE BATTLE PROGRESS

Well, this was how it turned out to be. A Death vs Dragon battle. I would like to say, I should won this battle easily because my opponent focused on magic attack and I had Thaddius Brood on my side. However sometime the battle did not run that way, so let see how this would go

image.png

  • The battle started with both of us buffing up our team and debuffing our opponents.
  • My opponent came with 1 range damage and 2 magic damage. It's a combined 3 damage per round.
  • My team had 6 melee damage per round, yes we were all melee team here.
  • This was exactly why Cursed Windeku was dangerous in low mana battle. They had 3 damage per round, however Windeku recover 3 health point per round. So we could say they would not be able to kill Windeku here.

image.png

  • My Uraeus killed their fiend on the first round, so things were on my favor now.
  • That Void Dragon had 4 health point... My Windeku had 3 melee damage, and Kinjo had 1 melee damage, 4 damage per round... Dragon should be died, right?

image.png

  • Well that's not the case. That Void Dragon kept dodging my attack due to speed gap + flying ability.

image.png

  • Finally their martyr died, and Djinn Bjilka and Void Dragon got buff up. However I believed all were too late, their dragon only had 1 damage, I did not know how far they could push their luck here.

  • Good Game

CLOSURE AND DISCUSSION

Both of us came with a solid plan. There was one similarity we had on our lineup, which both of us focused on one core unit. My team focused on Cursed Windeku and theirs on Void Dragon. In the end, my team won big due to these points:

  1. In small mana cap battle, not much we could do and most of the time we could only came up with a line up with limited fire power. So most of the case, Having a tank healer or a tank with heal ability, could change the course of the battle.
  2. Always expect to meet martyr nowadays. Target Practice is one of the favorite one, because martyr will be targeted first. If you use this tactic and turn out your opponent do not hit your martyr, you are doom... This battle is the example, my opponent tactic is good but when their martyr dies, its all too late.
  3. Thaddius Brood is strong againts any Magic meta. This doesn't mean he always win, but definitely a valid counter not only by numbers he has on the buff, but the death units selection could support this one too.
  4. There is reason why Venator Kinjo is a Legendary unit

image.png

if I do not bring this dude, I might lose that battle. Kinjo is not a great unit in general, but his ability sometime could fill in on certain battle and become dominant inside. In this battle, his SLOW ability is the reason why I could land some hit on Void Dragon, else, I could lose by RNG. So the dominance of my team, came from Venator Kinjo Ability.

Ok that's for my Splinterlands Battle Mage Secret post. Thank you for coming and reading my post here. See you on the battlefield!!
