Hi, welcome my entry post for Splinterlands weekly battle challenge. This week we have DRAGONS theme, so here is my DRAGON for this week:

QUIX THE DEVIOUS

EDITION: CHAOS LEGION

RARITY: LEGENDARY

ELEMENT: DRAGON

TYPE: SUMMONER

MANA : 4

ABILITIES:

  • -1 OPPONENT'S RANGE DAMAGE
  • -1 OPPONENT'S SPEED

Quix the Devious is one of my favorite summoner from Chaos Legion Edition alongside with Thaddius Brood. In my opinion, Quix is a perfect killer for General Sloan, or we can say he is anti Sloan summoner.

BATTLE PREPARATION

quix rulesets.jpg

  • UNPROTECTED ~ Monsters do not have any armor and do not get armor from Abilities or Summoner Buffs.
  • LOST LEGENDARIES ~ Legendary Monsters may not be used in battles.
  • 26 MANA

These rulesets were quite good, I beleive they could show how good Quix was.UNPROTECTED ruleset meant no armor was allowed. Quix -1 speed and -1 range damage ability would play great part here. LOST LEGENDARIES was not a crucial ruleset here, it only made you to use non Legendary monsters. The last was mana cap, 26. This was the real challenge, I wanted to use 6 monsters team so liked it or not I had to bring some small mana monsters in.

So here was my simple lineup:

PositionCardAbilityPlan and Strategy
Summoner-1 range an -1 SpeedOur main actor for this week. -1 range was good to nullify Sloan +1 range and -1 speed would work well in conjunction with Time Mage Slow ability
Main TankFly, Magic ReflectMy favorite tank in Life Element, 2 mana monsters came with 6 health points and very dodgy. With UNPROTECTED ruleset was on, Pelacor Conjurer became a lot better option over Blinding Reflector
SecondReachI liked Sunkai Harvester as pseudo tank. If pelacor died, he could replace the main tank position. UNPROTECTED ruleset was not suitable for him, however I believed with 2 melee damage and 3 speed, he would be a very important member in my team.
ThirdSlowFrankly speaking, She is my favorite monsters from all Chaos Legion Life element monsters. Not a strong one but would make her team became strong
FourthTank HealMy main support monsters, a healer. I must have one healer in my team.
FifthDouble Strikeone of the best damage dealer, highest DPS, in Chaos Legion Life Element. To be honest, I wanted to bring Prismologist but the mana was not enough
LastFlying, OpportunityI took this harpy as an extra because I had 2 mana left. Opportunity ability made Harpy a better choice than Xenith Archer or Herbalist.

This formation was a bit similar to my previous battle challenge about TIME MAGE . I liked the combination of Time mage and Quix The Devious, because two of them would reduce 2 opponent's speed. This would make all my team move first and hopefully killed their targets before they got hit back

quix battle 1.jpg

It was a Life vs Life Battle, my Dragon Summoner Quix the Devious vs his Life Summoner General Sloan. It's a true Silver League battle, I didn't see any level 1 monster here. Overall my team and his team were on equal level. I believed I would win this easily because I couldn't see how Sloan could beat Quix.

Round 1

quix round 1.gif

  • The game started as both party buffing and debuffing their monsters and opponent's monsters.
  • I had 4 melee damage, 2 magic damage, and 6 range damage. Combined damage was 12.
  • My opponent had 4 melee damage, 2 magic damage and 6 range damage. Combined damage was 12, it's the same as mine.
  • In this round my Sunkai Harvester killed his Blinding Reflector and my Harpy killed his pelacor. It's silly, he lost both of his tank in the opening round.
  • My opponent team made 3 mishits, his double strike pelacors missed all and stitch leech did the same.

Round 2

quix round 2.gif

  • Round 2 started with my team having no notable tank to defend their backline monsters
  • My Venari Crystalsmith killed their Stitch Leech, followed by my Sunkai Harvester killed their time mage
  • My Pelacor Arbalest killed his arbalest. Only Venari Crystalsmith left

Round 3

  • The battle ended tragically, I had all my monsters at full health and nothing his Sloan could do

BATTLE DISCUSSION

Did My Strategy Work?

My strategy worked very well. There were 2 strategy on my formation:

  1. Time control. I used Quix and Time Mage to suppress opponent's speed and It worked very well. Only their time mage could move in the middle of battle, the rest of them had to wait until all my team made moves.
  2. A mix of 6 monsters with frontal assault. I had 4 monsters : Sunkai, Time Mage, Venari and Arbalest aiming for their tank. Harpy on back would deliver killing move later. This worked well and they lost both of their tank on the first round and actually all was settled on that point.

Why did I call Quix as Anti Sloan Summoner?

General Sloan ability is a +1 range damage for his monsters. When Slaon meets Quix, Quix -1 opponent range damage will nullify Sloan one and only ability there. So it would be a battle with Quix -1 opponent speed vs Sloan with no buff at all. This is the first reason why Sloan should not be able to win over Quix. R

speed minimum.jpg

The second reason we can see above image. All range attackers have 1 speed only in that battle. All archers from Chaos Legion Life Element are relatively slow, it's contrary to Fire Element Archers which are fast and destructive as I have said that in my Venari Heatsmith Social Media Post.
. ange attackers are bound to attack first, else they won't do anything if their front tank/melee gets killed. Getting -1 speed debuff from Quix can be a fatal one for Sloan army, and this is the second reason why Sloan can't win over Quix.

Is Quix The Devious Over Powered?

Well, hell no He isn't. There are some cases where Quix can't perform at all or atleast He gets no advantages over his opponents. Here a couple of example about situation which are not good for Quix The Devious.

  1. Having Alric or Delwyn magic focused formation as your opponents. Quix doesn't have any debuff which reduce magic attacks. Lower speed doesn't mean fatal weakness for magic attacks too, regarding it can not be dodge. Monster with Phase Ability can dodge it, however there are only a few of them and mostlikely you won't think about using them when having Quix The Devious as your summoner.
  2. Meet mylor, he won't care a lot about opponent debuff, all he cares is how to keep healing his team and let opponents getting killed by themselves due to Thorn. Don't forget, Quix doesn't buff up your damage, so killing opponents in Mylor team will still become an issue when you use Quix

There are a few other reasons too, but these two are the most common ones.
