Shorten Lore: Living within the Realm of Silence, the mole-like race of Scavo were affected by the toxic gas from the Mountain of Ash. They became highly intelligent and worked diligently to protect their home from the blight. Scavo Firebolts were particularly changed by their proximity to the magma, developing the ability to summon and launch bolts of fire from their palms. They defend their home by launching these fire bolts from great distances.

Hi everyone, welcome back to my Splinterlands weekly battle challenge. This week we have Scavo Firebolt as our main theme. This is one of my favorite Fire Element Chaos Legion Monster. In this post I will change my habit of talking the battle first. Right Now We see our monsters first, shall we?

QUICK INSIGHT ON SCAVO FIREBOLT

image.png

The first impression I have from this monster is that this monster looks like a very strong 4 mana monster. Similar first impression I have got from Kulu Swimhunter. Stat-wise Scavo Firebolt grows very well level by level. The only thing that is lack on him is his ability, he has only one, the Knock Down ability, which he will get it on later stage/level. Although it's only one ability, I think he will be a good tandem with Lava Launcher who has a Stun Ability.

Ok Let's sum this into some points we can digest fast:

  1. Stat-wise Scavo Firebolt is good. The standard or benchmark for a range monsters.
  2. It has advantages to be played on Little League ruleset (4 mana below)
  3. His growth is good, stats getting better for each level he gets. This is a good consideration for investing / purchasing a lot on this monster.
  4. Regarding he doesn't have specific weakness, as long you need a range attacker / archer in your team, he should be able to fit in well

Battle Preparation

I had this battle ruleset and I thought this might be an interesting one

image.png

  • EARTH QUAKE ~ Non-flying Monsters take 2 Melee damage at the end of each round.
  • SPREADING FURY ~ All Monsters have the Enrage ability.
  • 28 MANA

First it's about Spreading Fury Ruleset. I played on Silver League, no Stun ability available on any monsters... So I believe I could ignore this one.

Then the main Ruleset I should worry, Earth Quake. The easiest way was to use Brighton Bloom, we would make all our monsters flying... however Dragon was not available in this battle.

I decided to use Fire Element then showed how good Scavo Firebolt would be. My thought was simple, with no Brighton Bloom, my opponent must be having difficulty to pick his monsters too. So this would be a battle of picking the strongest monsters or the hardest one to die. Kill fast or get killed by the EarthQuake

So here was my line up that I could come up with:

PositionCardAbilityPlan and Strategy
Summoner+1 range +1 health and BlastYodin was the strongest Fire Summoner I brought this time. I would use the strongest attack I could develop to kill my opponents as soon as possible.
Main TankFly, VoidI liked this cheap reward monster. It's not a weak one, instead I thought it's the best choice against magic attack when you needed flying tank too.
SecondFly, Close Range, DeathblowAlthough Devil had flying ability, I was worried that his 3 health point might be an issue as a replacement tank. I need his 3 range damage and 3 speed, Yodin would turn him into a killing beast
ThirdFlyInitially I picked Spark Pixies because Pixies had better range damage and speed. However regarding my second tank was the Devil with 3 health Point, I thought better I brought a higher health point monster.
The lastnoneOur main actor for this week. Together with Gargoya Devil, he should be the core of my team

Let see how this battle went off

It's a Death vs Fire. My opponent and I used a very opposite approach, His team was full of bigh health flying monsters, meanwhile my team loaded with massive damage. Overall he came with better selection, he had CTHULHU on his back. Meanwhile I had better leveled monsters, both my Scavo Firebolt and Gargoya Devil were on level max Silver League.

Round 1

image.png

  • The game started as both party buffing and debuffing their monsters and opponent's monsters.
  • My opponent had 5 magic damage
  • I had 2 melee damage from Gargoya Lion, 10 range damage from my archer team behind.
  • It's not a guarantee I would win this easy. Their backline had a total 25 health point meanwhile my whole team had a total 17 health point.

round 1.gif

  • My first move, Scavo Firebolt killed roasted opponent Chicken and Carrion Shade.
  • His Unicorn Mustang withstood the rest of my team attacks, however his Child of Forest died from blast damage.
  • His Goblin Psychic with 2 magic damage + blast effect managed to killed my Pelacor Conjurer and Sunkai Harvester. It's back to 4 vs 4 condition

Round 2

round 2.gif

  • My Lion managed to kill opponent's Rift Wing which kept evading my previous attacks.
  • CTHULHU closed this round by sending off my Lion.

Round 3

round 3.gif

  • My Scavo Firebolt again making the first move and killed their Phantom Soldier
  • As the last monster standing, CTHULHU became vulnerable to Deathblow ability. Gargoya Devil hit him with 8 damage, then Tower Griffin Killed it

Battle Discussion

In term of monsters selection, I think both of us manage to come up with good team. One is a hard strong fortress and the other one is fast destructive firepower. Both of us chose to attack straight forwards overloading our opponent tank with damage.

  • Negative / defense approach didn't work against Yodin team. If my opponent wanted to win by defense, he must be able to hold for 3 turn until my Scavo Firebolt got killed by Earth Quake. However within 3 turn, Scavo Firebolt delivered 12 range damage + some blast damage. Too much for them to defend
  • Cheap monsters don't mean your team weak. These two cheap monsters were the main reason my opponent lost, They delivered damage a lot higher than CTHULHU and Phantom Soldier. This means that Scavo Firebolt indead a strong monster, even perform well during disadvantage ruleset.
