SOCIAL MEDIA CHALLENGE : Does Having RiftWatcher Monsters in Your Team Make You Lose a lot?

avatar

Finally after several weeks, I am back writing my my weekly Splinterlands Social Media Challenge. I feel a bit rusty, forgetting alot where to start this post from.

For this week topic, I choose this tagline:

Does Having RiftWatcher Monsters in Your Team Make You Lose a lot?

I wanted to write about this because I kept finding opponents which brought some Rift Watcher monsters and ended seeing them losing badly. Honestly I was not that good anyway, but in those battle... Rift Watchers didn't work well for them.

As references and examples, I am sharing two of the battles which have finally made me decided to write about this post.

Battle # 1, A Flopping Kye

I met an opponent using a Runamancer Kye and a Sea Stalker. these two Rift Watcher monsters had a ridiculous stats. I could see how he wanted to run this battle:

  1. he used two antimagic tank, Torhillo on the front and Baakjira in the middle. Torhillo might kill opponent tank and Baakjira would withstand opponent snipping magic attacks.
  2. His Runemancer Kye would grow high health and became a tremendous last boss-like monsters, and the Sea Stalker would keep sending 4 range damages to my team

Those two strategies looked good, however they ended up badly

Round 1

kye-1.gif

  • This battle started by each parties buffed and debuffed monsters.
  • His Defense Mechanism worked well, my Oshannus and Hellondale couldnt made any damage.
  • My deep lurker took down his Tide Biter and his Torhillo couldn't hit my Oshannus

Round 2

kye-2.gif

  • His Runmancer Kye killed my Merdalii Guardian, however Hellondare brought her back to life
  • Torhillo journey ended here, Squid and Deeplurker took the buffalo down.

Round 3

kye-3.gif

  • Again, his Runmancer Kye killed my Merdalii Guardian

Round 4-5

kye-45.gif

  • in Round 4 he lost his Runmancer Kye and Baakjira. it's all over now.

A Quick Discussion:

In general my opponent made 2 big mistakes

  1. He put too many tanks without any healing or repair abilities, in a long rounds he lost due to lack of recovery.
  2. Overall His team was a lot slower than my team. He let all my damage dealers moved hit first.

This problems mainly caused by his Rift Watcher monsters. We will discuss it below later.

Battle # 2, A Bunch of Riftwatcher Clowns

This was one of the battles I had been looking for, my opponent came with max level of Silver League. All were gold, he must be a rich dude lol. His squad was so terrifying. Because I was a fan of Life Element, I felt something off with his team:

  1. I believed in some posts I had made, I said that Adelade couldn't connect well with Uriel. I thought this would be his biggest mistake later.
  2. Undeniable his team was amazing, high health, decent damage, and quite fast. But let see how this would fall apart

Round 1

ilthan-1.gif

  • This battle started by each parties buffed and debuffed monsters.
  • no body died in this round. His attacks were aimed at my Wave Brood behind and the ultimate recharge blow from Uriel hadn't been launched yet.
  • Meanwhile I wasn't able to kill his uriel... Seriously he was and would still be one the hardest wall in the front.

Round 2

ilthan-2.gif

  • Finally they killed my wave brood
  • Next was the 9 damages Uriel blow landed on my Diemonshark... luckily he got armor to absorb that blow.
  • My deeplurker killed their Adelade Brightwing. This was a major milestone for my team

Round 3

ilthan-3.gif

  • They killed my Diemonshark right away.
  • I got the battle on even ground by having my Deep Lurker killed their Uriel.

Round 4

ilthan-4.gif

  • His Djinn Renova killed my Squid.
  • At the end of round 4, my Nerrisa sent her magic attack, killing their Cosair Bosun

Round 5-6

ilthan-56.gif

  • Withoud any tank and good melee monsters, things looked bad for them
  • My Nerrisa Tridawn, the last slowest monsters in the battle killed their Renova in the last moved. This made their Rune Slinger came forward and unable to do anything more.
  • Round 6 was the last, his Time Meddler couldn't turn the table alone.

A Quick Discussion:

As a fan of Life Element, I should be very happy seeing Time Meddler, Runeslinger and Corsair Bosun in the battle field.. however I was not happy at all. Those 3 failed to perform carrying up their team, made their team weak and got slaughtered.

  • Those 3 Riftwatcher made him unable to set a defense system. Ultimately he lost Adelade Brightwing who supposed to keep supporting his team. Why would anyone bring a support and let her die first?
  • 2 of 3 Riftwatcher had same function, as secondary tanks. So his team was built by some tanks which led to less destructive fire power.

Ok that's for the quick discussion, we go to the main topic now.

Why Some People Fail To Use Rift Watcher Properly

This is our main topic, many fail to use the new Rift Watcher edition properly. Most of the first battles were due to FOMO (fear of missing out), they just bought Rift Watcher packs, opened then, and wanted to be seen as the first who used them... in hope of terrorizing other players with Over Powered Rift watcher monsters. and many failed to do so

So here some points which I have after having some discussion in Discord and Telegram group why some people have been coming with Rift Watcher monsters and keep on losing until today, October 2022

Lack of Understanding about Pack Edition

Unlike Untamed or Chaos Legion, Rift watcher comes with 5 monsters and a summoner for each element. So this doesn't mean you will be able to use all Rift Watcher monsters in a single battle, you can only bring one or two into your team.

This is completely different with Chaos Legion and Untamed edition, you can use a whole 100% chaos or untamed only team, and the team still work well. As long you bound to use as many Rift Watcher monsters you can bring in, you are going to lose badly because from starting point when they are developed, they never mean to be used altogether in a single team.

Most of Rift Watcher Monsters are Individualist

What I mean with this Individualist is that most of them won't come working together with Chaos Legion. I am going to give you two example

image.png

The above are Rift Watcher edition of water element monster and summoner. Compared to Chaos Legion edition, they are a lot slower. the notable difference that monsters such as Coastal Nymph and Sea Stalker, have high hit damage... but still slow.

image.png

Same goes with life element Rift Watcher edition above. Only Bosun has a good melee damage. The rest are semi tanks, either Time Meddler or Runemancer Atuat. If you compare to Chaos Legion monsters which most of them have small attacks, they would not blend well together easily because you will end up with a bunch of sturdy muscular wall who hit like girls.

Not all Rift Watcher element are like these, death is the easiest because most of Rift Watcher Death element can work better with existing Chaos Legion Monsters edition. But let's have this one as another topic for other social media challenges.

Not All Strong Monsters Can Carry Up Their Team

Having a big mana big monsters doesn't mean your team getting stronger. Some of them even fight alone, don't care about what happens to their other team mate, for example Runemancer Florre

image.png

This is a super strong monster, a game changer, however you might need to change your line up, having your team to support her rather than she is meant to support your team. Things are opposite with Queen of Crows, her Headwinds and Slow are making your Silent Shavi and Lira The Dark become more dangerous.

image.png

Fail to notice simple small thing like this might let you end on losing the battle.

POSTFACE

I don't want to make this thing like a complicated one, bottom line don't just blindly put in some Rift Watcher monster because you have enough space and they seem strong. If your team don't need them, then don't put them in.

Things might change greatly after Rebellion released next year, so if you want to collect Rift Watcher monsters on early phase, DYOR first before you feel like wasting some money because of FOMO (fear of missing out).
