The Battle Of The Queens That Never Ends
Hello Splinterlands Summoners
In this opportunity, I want to retell and old story, a never ending one about a competition for the best or strongest Queen of Earth Element. It is a competition between Katrelba Gobson and Quora Towershead.
For years, these two still dominate the battle. We have many newer or recent cards, some are extremely powerful, however I still believe these two stand above the others.
In my early days playing Splinterlands, Quora Towershead was the real deal. The strongest above all, the absolute one. But those were days when seeing a 4 damage attackers was something jawbreaker. As many newer cards introduced, there was another queen that stood on par against her...
She was Katrelba Gobson. I could say that during the golden age of Chaos Legion set, she might be more famous than Quora Towershead. IF Quora Towershead was considered as a lethal secondary tank, Katrelba Gobson was considered as the best glass cannon in Splinterlands... If your opponent did not anticipate any sneak attacks, then it's all over for them.
The functional or purposes of these two are different. The stats are no longer as something jaw breaking, because many newer cards give higher stats number or scarier abilities. Personally I still see these two still stand above the others, regardless what I have said before about newer cards.
Somehow I see many newer cards could work in align with them. They can deliver debuff or buff that make benefits for Katrelba and Quora.
Again, In my personal opinion, with the introduction of Rebellion and Conclave Arcana edition, I see Quora Towershead is back in favor. I think currently she is a bit stronger than Katrelba Gobson.
So let see what backed my opinion here...
The Battle
Nothing is better than showing a battle to explain or describing things about Splinterlands. This battle was from a survival mode, and I know it is a rare occasion that people talking about Survival mode. We usually talk about Rank Battles or Brawls, because those two are the most important in this game.
There is one simple reason why I pick this battle. This battle seems very standard, nothing seems special and indeed it is like that. However that is exactly I want to tell about you, that why Quora Towershead is stronger at the moment.
My opponent meta worked basedly on these two units as their foundation to support Katrelba Gobson. Thane Newsong had that inspire ability which was the most lethal buff for Katrelba Gobson. Her attacks will be a double strike of 4 melee damage, more than enough to make a kill in every round. The backline Mycelic Slipspawn was meant to buy one or two rounds, so when she died, Katrelba Gobson would have got some buff from her kills, and it would make her unstoppable.
And these were the two units that backed up my Quora Towershead. The first one was Virid Venomancer, her shieldward ability would make Quora Towershead got a shield ability and it made her harder to be killed from physicial attacks. Quillun Legionary would be my backline tank, his thorn ability would hold and kill incoming sneak melee attacks. He would not support Quora Towershead but he would become the backbone of my team defense.
I think I do not need to show you in detail, but I will show you the point where Quora bested Katrelba Gobson. You can check the battle detail by clicking the battle link above anyway...
It was at round 5 when Katrelba Gobson facing directly against Quora Towershead as the last one surviving. It was clear that at this point, Quora Towershead managed to wipe out the remaining two opponents. A win for Quora Towershead, good game for my opponent.
Now the point I showed you, it's not about how to defend, it's not about boosting up attacks, or picking the right units to support these strongest queens of the game. It is the edition...
My opponent had to pick cards from Chaos Legion edition to support Katrelba Gobson. On that part I agree with him, Chaos Legion was the best set to support Katrelba Gobson however this could mean that Chaos Legion could be the only set that support her effectively. Honestly even myself is struggling to utilize Katrelba Gobson with recent or Modern format units.
Meanwhile on the other side, The modern format units could support Quora Towershead either by defensive boost such as shieldward ability that is used in that battle, or offensive boost from Flank ability, Inspire ability and others.
To put this worse, the current modern format units are capable to build up defense for sneak attacks, and this is a counter for Katrelba. What about the counter for Quora Towershead, is there any good Giant Killer ability holder in current modern format?
So that's why I have said, in this era, Quora Towershead is better or stronger than Katrelba Gobson. I hope that the next edition might come with more units supporting Katrelba Gobson, because who is stronger today might not be stronger in future and forever this will be the battle of the queens that never neds.
